Well done wronoj.  NAC still hanging tough with 5 entrants on this list including carlbuzz's up-and-coming MMA squad.
someone want to do a Conference count? I'm pretty sure the Upstate has 8 teams on the list, but, sadly, none in the top 20.

thanks Ike. I've also gone back and added conference affiliations in my spreadsheet... was easier than i thought it would be.

No problem, wronoj, you do all the real work.  Although I would check your conferences,.  At first glance, they're pretty off  - may just be a formatting thing, I didn't look closely.

fixed data, now formatting an issue, but i can get it fixed eventually.

jj, your post made me look it up.

started the original thread in September of 2006, at the end of Season 17. can't believe i've been doing this list for almost 4 years.

within the first page of the original thread you'll see my first contact with taz, which led to our infinite home and home series, and also the seeds of the Big 5 tourney.

The teams that were on top then are almost completely different from those on top now. also interesting (to me at least) is that there were 28 teams eligible the first season, 28 the second, and ~60 every season now. some serious dynasty-building has gone on here in Wooden.

Chicago has a chance to get in next year's rankings. After coming on board in season 1 w/ 11 open scholarships, then falling just short in my CT finals in season 2, I've made the NT each of the last 3 seasons. It will be a challenge to make the NT next year, but I never thought I'd make it this year after losing my initial 6 man recruiting class.
The Upstate conference has a couple of developing dynasties. A lot of rebuilding was done this year as many of us came in at the same time into near complete rebuilds. However we held the top conference rpi slot in the previous 2 seasons for whatever its worth. We should be back in the top 10-15 next season, then challenging for the top spot the following years.

Floating around a bit this morning, thought I'd come on over and see how life in wooden was now adays.  Went back to see what wronoj mentioned above, and there's the post.  Seems like I may have sold the upstate a little short.

anyhoo, hope life is well for all those remaining in D3 Wooden.

Any thoughts on the tourney this year?

The Midwest landed two #1 seeds: Lake Forest and Beloit.  It's been an odd year for the Midwest, with several teams at the top of the heap pretty much all year, but several teams at the bottom of the heap as well.  Unfortunately the latter includes Monmouth, which made it to the final game last season.  But ogeewiz inexplicably disappeared before the start of the season, and Monmouth has been awful.

I vote for the East region being the toughest.  Top three seeds are really good teams from strong conferences: Lake Forest, Lasell, Amherst.  Then there is a slew of lower seeds who are solid, several of whom are underseeded (IMO) and have good coaches: Adrian, Oberlin, East Oregon, Finlandia, NYU, Vassar.   The field also includes the defending national champ, #6 St. Mary's.

Only blemish in the East is the #4 seeded SIMAI-coached Guilford.  What's up with that?

I think the field is very difficult to predict because do any of us really understand the new engine enough to know what will happen?

Nice year for the NAC...slight down year for the Upstate.

No kidding about the unpredictability of this thing.  I'm very curious to see how it unfolds.

The East does look rather beastly. Not sure about the other brackets, but the West is packed with a lot of very good pressing teams. Thomas has to be the favorite, but St. Norbert's, Elms, and Johns Hopkins are all 6 seeded or lower that have legitimate final 4 shots. Superior is too foul and turnover prone to pose a serious threat.

Still way too unpredictable but my best WAG is Lake Forest (East), Dickinson (Midwest), MBBC (South) and Thomas (West). Although with all that said I can see about 10 different teams making the Final Four (I wish one of them was me but its not thanks to Amherst and Lake Forest in the same region). I certainly wouldn't fall asleep on some of the higher seeds either with MBBC, another conference mate in Albion and of course good ole 13th seed NYU among a host of others.
