"No foolin', Captain Obvious, you're absolutely right. At D1 it has become the fashion to bury recruits in massive amounts of cash and prestige, winning recruits by brute force. At D2/D3 the coaches have no such massive budget and prestige advantage. They must recruit with an eye out for more highly placed schools moving in and easily taking a recruit. This can devastate the recruiting class for the year if they haven't skillfully lined up various back-up recruits to fall back on if a battle goes south. Some might even say that D1 coaches wield a big budget and a big ego (a grizzly bear), whereas D2/D3 coaches are nimble and resilient (a fox). I won't even get into the difference in culture on the forums."
