Your pitching is going to make your defense worse than you think it will be....pre-1920 pitchers will greatly increase the number of E's your guys make, but won't impact +/- plays much.
i always use pre-1920s pitchers and defense is always fine, but i'm changing my defensive lineup up the middle a lot...williams at 3b is huge: fine fielding % and lots of " + " plays...howard johnson at SS should make only a couple errors all season (but lots of " - " plays, which is why I have Foli for defensive replacement)...carter has a great arm behind the plate...
also concerned about centerfield, where i usually play ashburn... and 2b, where i'm starting a B/A shortstop...
yeah, my defense might not be that great...
if you keep HOJO at 100%, he won't make ANY errors at SS. I use him frequently and don't even bother switching him out for a defensive replacement.
He's an amazing OL shortstop for $5.3 million, EXCEPT that his performance history shows over 30 " - " plays... i picked him up on the waiver wire and he's played the last 22 games as short - 0 errors, 6 " - " plays...
For the money spent, HOJO's consistently good hittiing, power, and speed plus the fact he makes NO errors at 100% FAR outweighs his "-" plays. It's a trade off I'm always happy to make.
