I wonder if triples are somehow more likely with infield in, as 3 of those were?

Could very well be.

By the way, I looked up the MLB record for consecutive triples by a team in a game:

http://www.baseball-almanac.com/rb_trip2.shtml

On May 6, 1934, Boston hit four consecutive triples against Detroit in the fourth inning which is the most ever hit consecutively in a single inning.

We tied the record!

Just finished a season in ssupfoo's "It's all about who you know" league and one of the players had an interesting season.

1995 Ryan Klesko in real life batted .310/.396/.608 with 23 homers in 371 at bats, so I expected to platoon him in the 6 hole.

He ended up batting .294/.379/.575 with 24 homers in 320 at bats, not bad. But it was the way he did it that made me mad.

Thru his first 162 at bats, Ryan Klesko was batting .401/.474/.874 with 21 Homers!!!

Thru his next 101 at bats, Ryan Klesko batted .148 with NO! EXTRA BASE HITS!!!

His last 47 at bats, Ryan Klesko batted .238 but had a hit in every game to end his season with the the respectable .294/.379/.575 line.

4 triples in 4 consecutive at-bats -- the 4th by pitcher Sad Sam Jones, who in RL hit 0 triples in 1930!

I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS GET OUTTA HUR

Just a little thing I noticed tonight on Retrosheet.

The 1978 A's, after an abysmal season the year before (they finished last in the AL West in '77, behind even the expansion Mariners), got off to a hot start. They won 14 of their first 17, 19 of their first 24. They were 32-22 when they went on an 11 game losing streak...32-33. Being a lousy team, you would think that would be the beginning of the end.

But no, they managed to right the ship, went 28-21 over their next 49 games (.571 baseball). So by August 7th they were 60-54. Not bad. They were in 3rd place, just 3 games behind the KC Royals in the AL West.

What happened the rest of the season? Of their final 48 games...they won 9. 9-39, to finish 69-93. 23 games out and in 6th place.

Can you imagine the rant that a WIS owner would go on if one of his teams had a season like that?

Can you imagine the rant Charlie Finley must have gone on?

Now that I think of it, he might just be one of the WIS owners, given the kind of rants we hear about streaks. Could be worse, Steinbrenner never accepted losing a game.

I am on a roll now, sorry contrarian23, Bill Lee used to say of Rick Burleson that everyone gets mad when they lose, but Burleson got made even if the score was tied.

With most of my teams I make an extra effort against division rivals, and will hold back my best SPs and any good low PA hitters for those games. At the moment I have a trio of teams where the results have been rather extreme (record vs. division rivals posted first, then record vs. rest of league):

Colorado Bumpus Hounds -- 11-1, 25-18
1929 St. Louis Cardinals -- 20-1, 20-22
Cuellar & Friends --19-2, 30-28

Total vs. division rivals: 50-4, .926
Total vs. rest of league: 75-68, .525

A difference of .401!

Puto: means all that but is frequently used amongst friends like a bro- hug semi affectionate way. In order to discern the difference in use age one needs to see the facial expression or hear the intonation.

Looking at the all-time fielding records in 4 of my long-running leagues covering 77 combined seasons, the most "+" plays attributed to a single player was 44, by 2006 Carlos Beltran.  In a single-season prog of mine, 1920 Dave Bancroft just shattered that mark -- with 52 "+" plays.

Believe It or Don't!
Three and a half years since the above post, and I've finally come across a player who topped Bancroft's 52 "+" plays. In an OL I'm in that just simmed it's 162nd game, 1954 Willie Mays had 57 "+" plays.

Mays was pretty solid offensively as well (31 HR, 122 RBI), and finished 2nd in MVP voting.

The rest of Willie's team? Not so good. They finished with 32 wins, 80 games out of first.

In 1948 Stan Musial missed the Triple Crown by virtue of a rained-out home run.

He would have been the only player ever to lead a league in average, runs, hits, doubles, triples, homers and RBIs.
