The Geography Progressive League has just started: you can find our inaugural draft in the Theme League Forum or in crazystengel's magnificent resource (thanks again crazy !) the Progressive Database.

We use the whole population of baseball history from 1885 but teams could only draft each round from a select region of birth of ballplayers as found on www.baseball-reference/bio each round, making the strategic drafting a lot of fun - with an enormous number of draft picks traded during the process.

In just the second day of play of the new league - Ed Cushman threw a no-hitter !

Davis, Davis, Davis & Davis

Not a law firm, but a quartet of players from my 1985 prog team.  136 games in, and all four are contributing nicely to our 19-game lead in the division.  In fact, all four are overperforming:

Jody Davis
RL .232/.300/.400
SIM .294/.367/.532

Mike Davis
RL .287/.348/.484
SIM .302/.373/.528

Glenn Davis
RL .271/.332/.474
SIM .331/.408/.665

The winner, though, is pitcher Storm Davis.  In real life he had a 4.53 ERA and a 10-8 record.  For me, the $3.9M Davis has a 2.70 ERA -- 6th best in the entire league, and lower than big names like Tudor and Valenzuela.  And oh yeah, his record?   It's a pretty nifty 20-0!

Big Names Tudor & Valenzuela just posted that on the locker room door. As things line up now, Storm & the Davis's would be their 1st round playoff opponents.

I have 1988 Kirby Puckett in a 90M theme league.  In real life Puckett hit 42 doubles and 5 triples.  In this league Puckett plays in a park that's neutral for doubles and -1 for triples.  After 19 games, he's hit 1 double ... and 6 triples.

Strange season in a 2013 progressive...

Playing in a +1/+1 HR park:
Team leader in home runs: Jason Heyward with 19 (while batting .216)
Team leader in RBI: Andrelton Simmons with 82 (while batting 9th, sporting a .223 AVG, and having the second lowest SLG on the team)
"Cleanup" hitter Will Venable hits only 13 HR, but steals 43 bases with a .290 OBP.

And oh, yeah...we're playing in the ALCS right now.

Running Hot and Cold Dept.

Flashback to Game 117 in the OG Twist theme (80M franchise twist) and my team is a very mediocre 58-59.  Luckily for us the whole division stinks, and we're ahead of the 2nd and 3rd place teams by a few.  Now we've got 9 straight division games coming up, and we plug in our best pitchers and batters.  We go 9-0 and open up some space between us and our rivals.  Then we rest some of the key starters -- and go 9-0 again!

I don't know how rare this is, but I can't recall it happening with (or to) any team I've owned, not even in a prog where all-star lineups often bully AAA-riddled teams.  In a 110M theme league I'm in, my 8-8 team squared off for a 4-game series against a division rival, also 8-8.  We won every game, by the following scores:

3-0
3-0
25-0
7-0

Outscored them 38-0 -- didn't allow a single run over 36 innings.

I was looking at the career sortable stats for pitching in a prog I'm in, and accidentally had "C" checked next to position.  Surprisingly, there was one result: Mickey Cochrane.  Even more surprising, he had more than one appearance -- he had 11.  I've played in 400+ leagues and I've never seen a non-pitcher pitch so often.

All Cochrane's appearances were in  the 1925 season of this prog, and in total he threw 9.1 innings and had a not-horrible ERA of 6.75, and a rather impressive OAV of .282.  His team stunk (I guess that's how he got into all those games to begin with), losing 115 with a team ERA of 6.68 and OAV of .331.

Finally, Cochrane's record was 1-0; he was one of only two pitchers on the team with a winning record.

League MLB110431 of composite franchise teams from the era 1970-74, my Yankees team, chasing the Cardinals late in the season has won 5 straight - and four of the five have been shutouts by Peterson, Kline, Stottlemyre and Peterson. Except for a 7-3 victory in the third of the 5 games that is 36 shutout innings and counting by the early 70s Yankees staff !

The owner who finished first was...The Taint!

Believe It or Don't!

237 post-seasons, and only twice have I overcome a 0-3 deficit to win a playoff series.  Those comebacks occurred in back-to-back seasons of the same theme (Cheno5's Random Franchise Twist).  They occurred in the same round (the second).  And they occurred...against the same owner!

Believe It or Don't!
Glad I was not the owner you accomplished that against...

Taint once lost a TOC to Chauncey Fisher as well.
