The entire discussion is centered on whiff vs. productive out. Your contention is that "an out is an out". Everyone else says another type of out has a chance to be "productive" and, therefore, is better than a whiff. In a low scoring environment, the difference between the two is greater.

I'm curious to know who he thinks is discussing "value in terms of runs" with him, considering he is the only one that's brought it up in this thread.

We measure those values in terms of runs (or fractions of runs).

Do you have another way to measure it?

I'm not sure that BL would agree with himself if locked in a room alone. That doesn't seem to be his personality.

a productive out is an out that produces an outcome that could be helpful to the team (a ground out to the right side with a man on 1st or 2nd base). A non-productive out is a strike out at any time. How else can you measure that?
