The threshold was changed not too, too long ago. You could now make it in one season but that requires a NC win (or some super deep run). That’s pretty unlikely for a new coach. More likely, 1 season in d3 and 3ish in D2.
As many elite coaches will tell you, it IS more helpful to get to D2 and stay there for a little bit. It’s a great place to learn team building and recruiting. If you’re looking to learn even quicker,
