Random Roster Revived XVIII
I have done several leagues, both Random Rosters and theme leagues that involved using players drafted by their surnames. I don’t think anyone has ever created a league where the criterion involved using players’ given names.

So, I went through the database to find which letters were the most popular for given names. I sorted by 3 categories: forwards, d-men and goalies. Because there are part seasons involved there are, for example, 29 entries for Mike Sillinger. Here’s the breakdown for each group…

Fwds – Group 1 ( J, B, M, D, R, A, S, T, C, P, G) Group 2 (K, L, N, E, W, V, F, H)

D-men – Group 1 (J, B, D, M, R ) Group 2 (A, S, C, T. G. K, P, L, N, E, F)

Goalies – Group 1 (J , M, C, G, R, B) Group 2 (T, A, P, D, S, K, E) Group 3 (F, H, W, N, L, I, V, O, Y/Z)

Next I randomly chose 2 letters from each category. For the forwards and d-men, 1 letter is from the largest group and I letter is from the 2nd largest group. For the goalies (and scrubs) it is totally random so it is possible you could get 2 from the bottom group…maybe.

When you choose a number(s), you will receive something like this - (ML/BA/JW). With that you must draft 12 fwds whose given names start with M or L, 6 d-men who given names start with B or A and goalies (and scrubs) with given names starting with J or W.

There will be: a salary cap of $110 million and…No Gretzky or Lemieux, no injuries, no trades, no ML’ers, no PI, no WW, no clones and no shootouts, scrubs <500k.

Pick your number and I will send you your criteria for drafting. The first Saphead, please pick 2 numbers for me.

Have fun and be careful. While trying to establish a salary cap, after always referring to players by their surnames, a couple of times I drafted incorrectly and for the example above (ML/BA/JW) I drafted Maruk when obviously there was no “D” available. Then again it could be my age!

For some reason, Ben is not a Saphead (yet). Methinks I will nominate him for inclusion. Any objections from other members???
