dBKC
1) Steph Curry - When you are in the third spot it's usually a decision to be made whether you want Curry or Giannis Antetokounmpo, and I say go with Curry because it's much easier to spell. I had Curry once and I had issues with his short minutes for the third pick in the draft and his below average defense for this league, but if he's there you have to take him. Unless you decide to take Giannis Akymexpyanqvo. dBKC is better at this than I am and I'm sure he will make it work. Curry teams average 42 wins and have won four titles. I think he is also difficult to back up across five teams because, let's face it, there aren't any other guys just like Steph Curry.
2) Tyson Chandler - Solid pick here, taking the best available big. The Midge pick here would have been Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who is more difficult to spell than Steph Curry, but easier to spell that Giannis Amltcepuckso. It's never too early to start getting backups for Curry. Chandler teams have averaged 43 wins and have won two titles.
3) Serge Ibaka - Ibaka can play defense, get some rebounds, and be the translator for the team for almost anywhere that the team wants to go. I used him one time ever, and my team won the DH52 draft league. Let's see now, use him once, win the league, and never use him again. Sounds like Midge to me. I think I would have gone Kyle Lowry here, you can't have too many backups for Steph. Ibaka teams have averaged 41 wins (a chewy type if there ever was one!) and have won four titles.
4) Ben Simmons - An interesting choice to pair with Curry, adding defense, rebounding and passing. I believe Australian is the only language that Serge Ibaka doesn't speak. Ben's teams have averaged 40 wins and he has two titles.
5) Michael Porter - Porter adds some excellent eFG% and low turnover% to go with his stylish haircut. I'm not sure where dBKC will play him, but he will play him somewhere. If the best Porter is on the same team as the best Curry that team will have a great shot (get it?) at winning a title. Michael Porter teams have averaged 44 wins and have won 4 titles, despite having been used several times by Midge.
6) Jerry West - I really like this pick (which should scare the hell out of Spencer). West fits well with both Curry and Simmons. You know, my grandmother's maiden name was Simmons, but she wasn't from Australia. Getting Jerry West in the 6th round is good value, too. He was consistently being taken in the 4th round for a while. Jerry's teams have averaged 40 wins and he has won three titles.
7) Walker Kessler - Really nice defense and rebounding for one season. A nice addition for his best team. I'm going to make another bold prediction here. (Having a Magic 8 Ball can come in handy.) Spencer will put Kessler on his best team. Or one of his other teams...maybe. In his brief stay here at Hotel Savage, Walker Kessler's teams have averaged 45 wins and have won two titles. Will he add another championship this season? Magic 8 Ball says yes!
8) Josh Smith - I've never used him, and I'm in the middle of running the Savage Baseball draft right now so I'm not going to look him up. Josh is a fine player who provides plenty of ________ and ________ for Spencer's teams. A welcome addition to any squad! His teams have averaged 43 wins per season and have won three titles.
8) Mason Plumlee - I just noticed that dBKC took Mason Plumlee, not Josh Smith. Plumlee adds some good eFG%, rebounding and passing. I think. I don't know. Did you know that one season Dustin Pedroia had 20 stolen bases and was caught stealing only once? Mason Plumlee can't say that. Plumlee's teams have won 44 games per season and have added four titles. I chalk it up to the robusk effect.
9) Rajon Rondo - I'm not a big fan of Rondo because he doesn't shoot threes, he can't make free throws, and I think his turnover% is higher than most people like, in part because of fairly low usage. In this case, however, I think he is a good backup for Simmons, since he also plays good defense and has even higher assist% than Ben. Spencer got game. Rondo's teams have averaged 37 wins and he has won three titles.
10) Walt Bellamy - I am old enough to remember when Walt Bellamy was still playing. Did you know that he played for the Chicago Packers and the Chicago Zephyrs? The team started in 1961-62 as the Chicago Packers, named after the Green Bay Packers football team. Why would anyone in Chicago root for a team called the Packers? In 1962-63 the name was changed to the Chicago Zephyrs. Apparently nobody in Chicago knew what a zephyr was because the next season the team made like a zephyr and blew all the way to Baltimore to become the Bullets. Meanwhile, the team has become the Washington Wizards, who are playing even worse than the Chicago Packers. The Packers went 18 and 62 that season. Walt will spend his days reminiscing about the good old days in Chicago and his nights playing basketball for Spencer. Walt's teams have averaged 41 wins and have won one title.
11) Clarence Weatherspoon - I wanted Weatherspoon. I really could have used that 84 D with great rebounding season. Why is Weatherspoon a name but Weatherfork isn't? If my fifth team is a total disaster I'm going to say it was because I didn't get Weatherspoon. Weatherspoon's team have averaged 43 wins and have won two titles.
12) Yao Ming - His daughter should definitely marry someone whose last name is Dynasty. I'm guessing Yao has some center seasons that are better than some of the Bellamy seasons. Yao used to have a Chinese Restaurant in Houston. I never ate there, I would go to the barbecue place that was in the same strip center. I did eat at Kevin Durant's restaurant in Oklahoma City once. If you're making $17 million a season, why would you want to open up a restaurant? Yao Ming's teams have averaged 39 wins and he has won two titles.
Batman - Curry
Robin - On at least one team I would say Michael Porter. Maybe he doesn't always have a Robin. Maybe he should have taken SGA or Kevin Lowry early in the draft.
Alfred - I'm going to say Ben Simmons. Assists, defense and rebounds from a point guard? That's pretty nice.
What I like - Steph Curry
What I am concerned about - Where is the offense off of the bench? I guess it's Jerry West. Hey wait, didn't I like that pick?
If Ben Simmons is sitting on Rajon Rondo's shoulders will he dunk the ball? Magic 8 Ball says no.
The robusk Effect - Any player who plays for a robusk team in Savage will have his win totals and title totals (it's fun to say title total, go ahead, try it) increased.
The Midge Effect - The exact opposite of the robusk Effect.
Random Midge thought: Name three reasons why Robert Horry won seven NBA titles. Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O'Neal and Tim Duncan.
