Rules:

1. No clones, rookies, or waiver wire.

2. Each user is responsible for drafting and managing a team that remains in compliance with the league rules.

3. 7 exclusive drafted players, plus 5 non-exclusive undrafted players. The 5 non-exclusive undrafted players may be any player not selected in the draft. Each user must use their drafted players.

4. Draft Sequence: ABABAB. 1 pick rounds 1-5 and 2 picks in round 6.

5. Draft order: Draft lottery will use the New York Lottery. Each user will be given a time slot. The first three numbers drawn during that time slot will be your score. Lowest score will be number 1 and so on. Ties will be broken by whoever has the lowest 4th number.

6. A posted pick is FINAL. No changing picks after a selection is posted. If an ineligible selection is made, the draft will continue on and the user who made the selection will have to make another pick. Other users do not have to wait for the makeup pick to be made.

7. During the draft, site mail the next 2 users on the schedule after making your pick, or state that you cannot site mail and somebody will take care of it.

8. Draft will be on the clock. 24 hour rule in place.

9. Trades are allowed, but only for entire draft slots, not individual picks.

10. Divisions: Divisions will be random.

11. During the draft, please refrain from mentioning undrafted players.

12. Any playoff game where a typical "Best Player" plays more than 50% less minutes than their min/82 (exceptions to be made for foul trouble) will be considered a tank game. Users are not allowed to tank a playoff game unless:

They announce on the league chat that they are tanking the game by 10:00 EST

Any announcement after this time will be considered void.
Any game that is tanked without an announcement prior to 10:00 EST will result in the following game being forfeited as well.

If an announcement is made that one opponent is tanking a game, the other user still needs to ensure that they are not tanking the game. If user A announces they are tanking, and user B plays one of their "Best Players" less than 50% of their min/82, user B will forfeit their next game and will not be allowed to tank that game.

"Best Players" are defined as the players any reasonable user would clearly play if they were trying to win.

13. The "Commissioner" may take control of any team refusing to comply with the ODL league rules. A warning will be issued in the league forum and a sitemail, after which the user has 3 games to comply. All games in violation are 'losses'.

- Sorry, I missed the call but what???? Isn't the whole reason you would have the announcement be so that I don't **** away my players minutes on a game you are going to throw away. The biggest annoyance about the tank is that it allows users to essentially manipulate the minutes / reset homecourt by throwing away a game they had low odds to lose + stacking the odds in the other games. If I can't reduce the minutes of my players after the announcement then what exactly is the point of the announcement?

I wasn't planning on coming back until I saw you guys were sitting with an opening for a month, so I really didn't follow this at all. Sorry for the late interjection. But this rule is really poorly implemented and doesn't really provide any relief to the injured party.

Also who was the genius that thought minutes was the right metric? So 24 minutes Kawhi and 48 minutes Wilt get held to the same standard? You guys just let the smart guys craft the rule in a way they could exploit and the rest of you fell for it? I’m struggling to grasp the logic here.

I signed up and didn't even read the new rules. I'd like some help with the tanking (that would be better described as resting) and the advantage. The advantage to the owner resting is that players can play much more minutes in future games. But what about the individual usage penalty? I thought if you played a 24 minute Kawhi 40 minutes, his FG% and TO% would take such a hit that it's not worth it. Given so many seem against I assume I'm wrong and there's more of an advantage than I realized.

Anyone want to offer up their theories?

I am confused, but I’m also just along for the ride.

For those not familiar with the tactic you increase you best player minutes more than they could sustain. When they get tired you rest them, play a bunch of scrubs and lose the game so that for the rest of the playoff series (or periodically in the regular season) you can go back to increasing the minutes of those best players too your advantage - and the rule suggests enough owners feel it's unfair or just not preferred and want a rule against it.

My question was more about how much an advantage it is, given it gives you a definite loss in a 7 game series and I thought there were built in penalties that made the player play worse in a game, even when 100% healthy if you jacked up his minutes.

Also I'd like to recommend a rule for BOWIS. Might be too late for this one, but I think it would be great to not just snake draft the league, but snake draft the draft positions for each league. So the owner drafting 24th in the first league drafts 1st in the next league, then back to 24th in the following and so on. Trades still allowed.

I think the new rule does what it’s supposed to. The rule DOES allow you to reduce the minutes of your guys and bank fatigue if your opponent is going to tank. You just can’t also tank without announcing it.

I’m open to ways to improve the rule though.

Very against this.

This would keep people in the middle for all six drafts while others get to alternate between ends. To me, the top of the draft is usually a slight advantage over the end, which is usually a slight advantage over the middle. It’s all pretty close, but the suggested rule would give two users three number one picks while a bunch of people would be stuck in the middle six times. I think random just makes a lot more sense.

I think 50% both ways makes infinitely more sense than 10 minutes. 10 minutes is idiotic. Also it should be “reasonable citizens’ best few players” and not starters.

Plenty of times in any playoff race with overtime, foul trouble, matchups, etc. I might go up or down 20 on my high minute guys. 50% is clearly doing something.
