After what has been at least 6 or 7 straight seasons, Dame has supplanted Kawhi as the winningest player in Savage history.
If I hadn't traded slots with dh (which I now regret), I was taking Dame and felt no hesitation whatsoever to have him as my main offensive guy.
I’m personally a believer that all but a handful of teams are on equal footing through the first 6-7 picks of the draft. Most good coaches could pick up any one of the teams at any slot at that point. The difference between top five and 20 is what you do with picks 7-12. I mean so many of the players with the best averages ever are those that go in the back half of the draft. The difference between top 5 and 1 is a lot of schedule and luck, some decent playoff management. My $0.02.
I guess point being I think Barkley and Rodman was a great start. Just as good if not better than Admiral and Lillard in my opinion.
Ehh, I feel like I blew rounds 4 & 5 more than anything. McAdoo ended up playing very little for me except for in one world (where he was EXCELLENT). I also keep getting too cute cutting it too close with usage. This team had too few threes, too many fouls, and too many turnovers. The usage thing hurt in the turnover area AND made my shooting worse. At least, that's what I think happened. I could be way off base here.
Also, had I won one more game or clued the **** in sooner in world 4, I'd have finished 6th overall even if that team hadn't won a single game in the playoffs, and, well, that team went like 42-28 after a 1-11 start, sooooo....
I learned things this go round. At least I think I did. Parts of me is more and more convinced that there's so much more luck involved than people give credit for, but then I'm talking to a FOUR-TIME CHAMPION so there's clearly far fewer elements of luck and more elements of something I fall short on.
I had to completely reverse course on W5 after a 5-10 start to just barely make the playoffs. My plan for that team, similar to your W4 team was just bad. On paper it seemed great but it just didn't play out that way. The team that ended up playing much better made no sense to me at all as it had just so so so much usage.
I had like 6 opps in the last 10 games to not be a ******* in W2 and I could have not been sweating this entire thing but it was not to be.
McAdoo is one of those guys who I constantly have high on my board but never end up picking.
I think I do a lot of good stuff on the margins but I also think people like ash, jcred, chewy, ragged, ben, mptrey, dbkc, tarheel... several others are all just as good as me at most everything in Savage. I think there are things I picked up on ahead of the curve (between seasons 2 and 3, I sucked the first two seasons) but I know any early advantage I had a) other people also figured out (some quicker than others) b) I posted/blogged/vlogged about. At this point everything that I know about, you all know about.
I think it is probably some equal parts luck, making sure to nail all the advantages, never letting your foot off the gas during the season, looking for every extra half of a percent in between drafts, making sure to nail all the superstitions.
