Its really a shame how much Derek Jeter hate there is out there.

1) The guy was never smug or an *******.
2) He always played hard.
3) He put up HOF numbers

Yet I always here people trying to tear him down...

It's *****-envy.

Jeter-haters have tiny dicks. Known fact.

Jeter was great, top 10 all time at SS. But his defense was not good. Definitely not good enough for multiple GG.

He's not top tier Arod/Wagner/Ripken but he's in the next group with Larkin and Trammell.

Alan Trammell. Another overrated guy you keep hearing about.

I have Jeter and Ripken basically neck-in-neck. If anything I'd give Jeter the edge. Maybe you meant Arky Vaughan?

Neck and neck overall, or defensively? Jeter was not in Ripken's league when it comes to defense. Overall, they're probably very close. Although offensively, Ripken was probably further ahead of the other SS's in his era, relative to Jeter.

I don't think dahs was arguing for a defense only player. He just took defense into account.
I'm aware. And then the topic became whether fans considered defense when voting. It would be nice if you could keep up with a discussion in at least one thread.
Considering defense and voting for defense only players are two different things.

Regarding AL 3rd base, Donaldson's defense is a bonus on top of his offensive production. Plenty of fans take that into account.
You're a fool if you think the average voter is voting for Donaldson based on his defense. He's a good defender, but I guarantee very few voters take that into account when placing an all-star vote for him.

People voted for Donaldson because of name recognition since he was AL MVP last year.

"Oh, he won the MVP last year? He must be good, he has my vote".

People vote for players for no apparent reason. Even pretending a guy will get in based on defense is bullshit. I bet 50% are nothing more than "homer" votes.

Ripken's offensive peak was significantly better than Jeter's and I even if you think Ripken was just average defensively, there's a lot more value there compared to Jeter's glove.

No one is voting only because of his defense. But giving him credit for being a good defender is reasonable.

Beltre started over Miggy Cabrera in 2012. Do you think that had nothing to do with defense?
7/11/2016 1:43 PM
That's a legitimate and not a sarcastic question, by the way. I would think that defense played some role in that voting process, but I could be giving the voters too much credit.
