Fellow Leaguemembers,

I find myself in the following predicament. Everybody in the NL is eligible to catch a ball thrown their way. At this point in the season there is no reason not to catch as the Deadline approaches so the ‘protection’ having three catches offers will not be needed (6:00 PM Eastern March 7). Team Toddleduc is out of the running so taking four penalty points a day for the next two days won’t affect us. I’m still in first in my division and may still make the playoffs.

I face the prospect of having nine straight throws caught with no upside for my Team (and no downside for not throwing) and completely eliminating any chance of making the playoffs myself. Even if a throw is not caught there is an excellent chance I'd get hit once more before the deadline, and there is NOTHING on the WW for SP right now. Taking the above into account logic dictates (RIP, Leonard Nimoy) that I not throw again. Can anyone offer a compelling reason for me to throw? I don't want to be a dick, especially in my first Dodge Ball season, but throwing seems kinda stupid at his point.

I agree, and pointed this out earlier.

There is a way to avoid getting hit.

You need to throw the ball within 30 hours.

He doesn't need to throw the ball within 30 hours. He needs to throw the ball within 30 hours to avoid a penalty that, in this case, is meaningless to his team.

I think there is a way out of this. Try this scenario:

Slotterhodge throws the ball at team 1 - catch - Loses 1 player
throws the ball at team 2 - catch - loses 1 player
throws the ball at team 1 - no catch available

I don't see where this is not allowed in the rules. They state you can't throw at someone who just hit you. There's nothing there about a catch. It can be assumed that a catch would be considered the same as a hit, thus you cannot throw at someone who just caught your ball. But if you get caught a second time, then hitting the 1st team on the 3rd throw would not be hitting the team that just caught your ball, thus making that team eligible to be hit.
