Welcome to the “King of the Draft” Tournament! If you like drafting your own team and going up against some of the best competitors in WhatIfSports, this is the place to be. I've always wanted to do this but just never put it all together until now. This will be a four-round tournament that will include drafting (using the WIS Live Player Draft Utility) in every league of every round.
Round One will be made up of twelve 16-team leagues. Once all twelve leagues are completed, the 48 playoff teams as well as the 48 “best of the rest” (across all twelve leagues) teams will earn a spot in Round Two.
Round Two will be made up of six 16-team leagues. Once all six leagues are completed, the 24 playoff teams as well as the 24 “best of the rest” (across all six leagues) teams will earn a spot in Round Three.
Round Three will be made up of three 16-team leagues. Once all three leagues are completed, the 12 playoff teams as well as the 12 “best of the rest” (across all three leagues) teams will earn a spot in Round Four.
Round Four will be one 24-team league.
The World Series winner of Round Four will be declared the winner of the tournament and will receive the winner’s purse donated by WhatIfSports. They’ve agreed to award the winner of this tournament $150.00 in credits.
For those of you who are able to advance to Round Two and beyond, I'll post the Themes for Rounds Two through Six in "thejuice6's Theme League Draft Forum" once we get Round ONE underway.
Okay, here are the particulars for Round One…
League 01: Players from 1885-1900
League 02: Players from 1901-1912
League 03: Players from 1913-1924
League 04: Players from 1925-1936
League 05: Players from 1937-1948
League 06: Players from 1949-1960
League 07: Players from 1961-1969
League 08: Players from 1970-1978
League 09: Players from 1979-1987
League 10: Players from 1988-1996
League 11: Players from 1997-2005
League 12: Players from 2006-2014 (Obviously, we can’t begin this draft until the 2014 players are added to the database which should be sometime in early October).
Based on the poll I conducted previous to posting this, the drafts will take place as follows:
All drafts will be “One pick a day” and picks will be in 45-minute intervals. Drafting will begin each day at 10:00 A.M. (EST) and will end at 10:00 P.M. (EST). The Draft Utility will be set up as such:
1: We will not allow multiple player clones (i.e., only 1 Roger Maris allowed in each league;
2: We will allow drafted players to be replaced by the same player but from a different season during the draft (you can only do this when it’s your turn on the clock);
3: Draft Order for each league will be “random” and the Draft Style for each league will be “Snake (1-24, 24-1);
4: There WILL be Forced Time Limit on picks;
5: There WILL be interleague play;
6: Sitemail notifications will automatically be sent when it’s your turn to pick.
Once a league has sixteen owners and they’ve all entered their teams, the draft for that league will begin. Yes, there’s a chance that several different drafts will be happening at the same time. With only one pick a day per draft, however, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
Also, once a league draft is completed, that league will begin play. I’m not going to wait until all twelve drafts are finished before we begin play. This does mean, however, that the leagues that finish first will have to wait until the twelfth league finishes up their 162-game regular season before we know for sure who all will advance to Round Two.
Here are some other items of interest for Round One:
NO: Waiver Wire, Trades, A.A.A., Live Play or Injuries
YES: Designated Hitter
CAP: $110M
CLONES: Not in this round
STADIUM: WhatIfSports Park for everyone!
You may use either full or partial players seasons in this round.
Okay, who wants to join me on this crusade?
