Bud Selig's To-Do List Topic

Bud will be retiring and stepping down in another six months or so.  We should help him by putting together a "to-do" list for his final days in office.  I'll start.

1)  Apologize for overseeing the cancellation of the 1994 World Series.
2)  Apologize for the Steroid Era.
3)  Apologize for interleague play.
4)  Apologize for moving the Brewers to the NL and the Astros to the AL.
5)  Apologize for 15 team leagues, which mandates interleague play throughout the entire season.
6)  Apologize for the "All-Star game determines WS home field" nonsense.
7)  Apologize for not speeding up the length of games.
8)  Apologize for not moving up the start times for WS games so that they don't end after midnight on the east coast.
9)  Apologize for the "no collisions at home plate" rule.
10)  Apologize for not standardizing on DH or no DH across leagues.
11)  Apologize for not reinstating Pete Rose.
12)  Apologize for not retiring sooner.

What have I missed?

Uh oh, forgot one:

Apologize for not recognizing the passing of Tony Gwynn at the ASG.

At a MLB luncheon, Tony once at off Bud's plate without asking.   That's why.

That would have cut into Jeter time.

1) Agree
2) One could argue that without the steroid era, baseball doesn't bounce back as well after the strike.  It's an era in the record books, after time we'll make peace with it.
3) It was very popular for a while.  Good move.
4) Who cares?
5) Piggybacking off 4 - moving Astros made sense.  Makes it fair.  Something I had been arguing for a while.
6) I like the idea of making players try in these games.  I agree it's a pretty dumb way of doing it though.
7) Depends how you'd speed it up.
8) It's a money thing.  We want the west coast to watch too.
9) That's a clusterfuck that needs to be clarified.
10) Yes, that needs to be uniform.
11) I disagree.
12) Meh.

Every commish sucks. The only one with a shred of fan support is Adam Silver with the NBA, and that's because he took over in January. Give him lockout and he'll be as popular as the rest of them.

West coast wants to watch too?
Can we agree that the best part of the game is the end?
What does the west coast miss?
70percent of the United States population lives east of the Mississippi.
You CAN NOT start games after 8 pm eastern time. Period.

5 PM Pacific?  Which is harder for the average American, being home at 5 PM or staying up 'til 12:30?  About 1/3 of adults in this country normally stay up past midnight on a regular basis (most of the time), while nearly 90% are up past midnight once a month or more.  I don't know exactly what proportion of adult Americans are home before 5 PM on a work night once a month or more, but I'm willing to bet it's nowhere near 90%.  People who live on the east coast don't even realize how big their east-coast bias is.  I've lived on both coasts, and believe me, the sports schedules are dramatically better in the east as it is.

Lived in Arizona + Calif. for 9 years

The NFL  is better to watch in the Western US time zones. 10am/1pm/ 5pm rocked as opposed to 1pm/4pm/8pm as were college football saturdays

it was strange watching NHL+ MLB games weekdays- 4-4:30 pm

the NBA sux **** at all times
