Bad hops do happen all the time.    Not very many ever hit anyone in the face.

Guess what....they still happen.  Someone here has listed several people that have had that happen.

But it still does happen, even if it's rare.

So what's your point?

Guess what?   How many groundballs do you think happen in ML every season?    How many strike a player in the face?   I'd say "Less than one".    So what part of "Not very many ever hit anyone in the face" is confusing you?

Uh, I'm not a professional athlete, dipshit.   How ******* stupid are you?

Not stupid enough to try to prove my point by arguing against it, that's for damn sure...
You don't even know the point, you stupid *******.

The point was to make fun of Cabrera.  Nothing more, nothing less.   I'm the only person who knows if I even played ball last weekend.  (I did but, again, that's not the point).

Wow...comparing your softball games to Miggy and the MLB.  Congrats on the losing the argument.

Can't believe this is still going on....what a joke.
Another ignorant *******.

It really wasn't the point.    I was simply pointing out that people, even those of considerably less athletic ability, can avoid getting hit the face with a batted ball.
And, of course, this.

And the counter was that, no, the vast majority of people would have been hit in the face by that baseball, if they were standing in the same position, and was as tall, as Miggy.

Except there's no way to prove that to be true.    The fact of the matter is that very few people, at any level, take groundballs in the face.    That is a fact.  "the vast majority of people would have been hit in the face by that baseball, if they were standing in the same position, and was as tall, as Miggy" is not.   Pure speculation.

To put it another way, there is talk of mandating that pitchers wear some sort of padded hat.   They don't get hit with line drives in the noggin very often but it's often enough that it's a discussion worth having.    Is there a discussion about 3B wearing face protection that I'm unaware of?

Think about that for a second.

Professional athletes, who literally play baseball and field major league ground balls 6 months a year full time, get hit in the face with ground balls (it's rare but still at a non-zero frequency).

MikeT, who plays slow pitch softball once a week, has never been hit in the face with a ground ball.

What does that tell you about MikeT?

That he knows how to avoid getting hit in the face by ground balls better than some professional athletes?

Softball is a chick sport. you play field hockey too?

Sounds like that is his argument. Which is insane.

I'm using the fact that he's a professional athlete and obviously has fantastic reactionary skills based on his god-like ability to hit a baseball. The fact that you assume that you would have moved out of the way of the ball is silly.

My son just called with my 74th birthday present. He is taking me to DJ's last game (@ Fenway on 9-28). He is my favorite player & I'm hoping he'll be healthy enough to play.
