12-13 Draft Discussion Thread Topic

98, I’ve not done any team-by-team analysis but I’ll share my takes and assumptions about this league, starting with the RL stats from the 12-13 season.

Possessions: 106.24

EFG: 49.65%

TOV%:  13.68%

Pf rate: 8.27

Draw rate: 9.24

Ast%: 59.61%

Orb%: 26.5%

Reb: 42.11

Of course our league trims the bottom 20% of NBA scrubs since we have 24 teams and the NBA has 30, but these numbers still have a significant impact on what we will see in the Sim.

The first thing that JUMPS out at me is the pace of the NBA. At only 106 possessions per game I believe there is not nearly enough usage in this draft for more than ¼ of us to be running uptempo and avoid the individual usage penalties. Therefore, I think the TOV% in this league will be quite high.

Next, rebounding is at a super-premium in this league. Guys with solid advanced stats will CRUSH their RL numbers because there were only 42 rebounds per game in RL per team and the Sim generates closer to 50.

Assists are also hard to come by and as we have seen are at a premium as well.  I believe some teams will find that they dip below the 50% threshold at least for some amount of time each game and their efg% will be adversely impacted.

Minutes are NOT as at a premium as some people believe they are. I personally have 9,222 after four guys, meaning I need to average only 1,300 minutes for each of my remaining players. At this point quality of the player is FAR more important than how many minutes they offer.

Defense will also be very interesting to observe. Many teams have locked into sub-50 D guys, put more than two of those on the floor at a time and I think we will see how much that hurts a team.

98 your four guys offer a great balance and address the areas that appear to be the hardest to come by in this draft. At this point I would prefer NOT to be in your division.

Thanks for the analysis nate. I think you are teaching a lot of people what it takes to win. It's definitely a double edged sword though.

Thanks 98, not sure about the "teaching" thing, but thanks. IMO whether it be WIS drafts or fantasy leagues the league as a whole is better off when its filled with strong owners. When you have weak owners someone else always benefits, e.g. a player slips an extra round and someone else gets a gift. I'm NEVER the guy that gets the gift, and we are all better off when none of the teams are little more than speed bumps.

Steelers, I like seeing a theme design teams. The offensive boards are impressive, considering the FG% you may be able to set a new WIS o-rbd record. (lmao) Me, I think I'll draft PG's, SG's & SF's along with Garnett and see if I can freak SIM out again. SIM's still recovering from the +40 apg I brought to the DDL. SIM looked at that and said "smokey wft are you doing" then normalized to 37. I was having fun with Daryl Dawkin shooting 75% and Stockton shooting 65%, appears the SIM thought that was a bit over the top, now they shoot 65% & 59%. (what fun is that?) So, I thought "What If?" I draft 45apg and no PF's....hmmm, we'll see? lol

Hey, anyone know where I can get a +20.0% d-rbd PG???
6/12/2013 6:23 PM
SIM said "go fish"...

Nate, thx as always, your post are great.
