Nice list frazzman80... I should have put The Sting, Sandlot and  Quigley Down Under on my list too.

Ditto frazzman...I also forgot about Seven Samurai.  A made for TV movie that I have watched many times...Andersonville.  The movie about the unbearable prison camp during the Civil War is a tad long at over 2 1/2 hours, but mostly accurate.  I rarely see it televised but I have the dvd.  Netflix!

FIELD OF DREAMS

thejuice6 - how did we miss that one ?  !!

Thanks. Now I wish it were on tonight.

Field of Dreams is very near the top of my list. Also, as far as sports movies go...
Miracle
The Greatest Game Ever Played
Hoosiers
Pride of the Yankees
Remember the Titans

Man movies...
The 1st three Bourne movies.      The new one is not good enough for this list
Hunt for Red October.                   May be my all time favorite. No romance, and almost no women in the movie. Purely a guy flick.
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly  Best Western ever and best Clint Eastwood movie ever
True Grit                                        I'll take either one, though the original is John Wayne's best ever
Casablanca                                   On the short list of best movies ever (Godfather probably beats it out)
Braveheart                                     Freeedommm!!!

Others...
Razor's edge                              Bill Murray's best role. A serious part, no joke. Literally.
Groundhog Day                          Murray's best lead role, Comedy (No, he's not in a lead role in Caddyshack)
The Kid                                        I like Bruce Willis better in this than in his Die Hard movies
The Sixth Sense                         I see dead people. Willis' best movie?
Raiders of the Lost Ark               My favorite Harrison Ford movie
Pelican Brief                               I love these kinds of movies
Amazing Grace                          I love true stories, and this is as good as they come
Gentleman's Agreement            One of Gregory Peck's best
Luther                                        Just because I like non fiction

How 'bout a few chick flicks (I watch these with my wife and two daughters, except for the last one, which is a personal favorite)...
Sabrina                                        Not Ford's best role, but he did way better than Bogart in this role.
Pride and Prejudice                    Best Jane Austen movie
Sense and Sensibility                    2nd best. No man should ever have to watch any other Austen movie
An Affair to Remember
Sleepless in Seattle
You've Got Mail
Nottinghill                                   This movie plays out what everyman dreams about Julia Roberts

Comedies...
Life of Brian                              Better than Holy Grail
Airplane!                                   Cannot mention Caddyshack and Monty Python without including this classic
Bruce Almighty                         Only Jim Carrey movie I am not embarrassed to admit I have seen
Princess Bride                         Nuff said

Musicals...
Fiddler on the Roof
Singing in the Rain
My Fair Lady
Sound of Music
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

Animated...
Toy Story trilogy
Emperor's New Groove
Bug's Life
Finding Nemo
Ice Age               The sequels suck, but the first one was good

Oh yeah. City Slickers. One of my all time favorite lines: "I crap bigger than you"
2/26/2013 3:55 PM
And the movies that made John Wayne's career - Stagecoach.
2/26/2013 3:56 PM
I HATE Field of Dreams.  Can't stand it.

firesalt, great list. You are right about both Bill Murray films. And both Jane Austen books made into films. I might give Casablanca the edge over the Godfather just on the importance of the subject matter, but it's close. I agree about Life of Brian and so does my wife who included it on her list.

I have tried to like Hunt for Red October - great cast, but in the end nothing really happens.

I like "Josey Wales", "Liberty Valance", "Stagecoach" and "The Searchers" more than "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" good as it is. Partly, the spaghetti westerns always disappoint me because I have seen the Japanese originals that Leone based his on.

If you like Gregory Peck and have not seen him cook as Ahab in Moby Dick check it out: "The White Whale tasks me Mr. Starbuck, he HEAPS me. But he too is but a mask. What I chiefly hate is the thing behind the mask..." credit not only to Melville but to Ray Bradbury who wrote the screenplay.

I am watching "Saving Private Ryan" as i write this.
