that's true....I'm pretty sure I am the greatest player of all time...except no team gave me the chance to prove it

also, Stan Musial was a better player than Willie Mays
There is no way Musial was better than Mays.

Offensively, Musial was better, posting significantly better raw BA and OBP. But when you look at OPS+, Musial only comes out slightly ahead (159 to 156).

Once you factor in defense, it isn't even close. Mays played over 23,000 more innings in center field. Musial spent most of his time at first and in left field.

With careers almost exactly the same length, Mays finished with 150 WAR, Musial with 123.

Ruth, then Williams, then somebody else.

If you believe Bill James, Musial was better all-around than Ted Williams (he's including the fact that Teddy Ballgame was an ******* and disliked in the clubhouse).

but Ruth and Williams didn't play center field, they clearly have no importance....

Sosa and McGwire were smacking homers at a similar rate as Bonds in the same era.   Ruth hit more homers than entire teams.
Ruth was playing differently in those seasons I'd guess.  Which is to say he was trying for dingers when others were simply going for line drives.  Perhaps you can credit Ruth as an innovator of sorts, he definitely changed how the game was played/thought of.  Once others adopted his style at the plate they caught up with him (Gehrig, Hack Wilson, etc.)

No mention of Mickey Mantle yet?

I take Mantle over Ted Williams, Stan Musial or Willie Mays fwiw

I don't think anyone said that. Defense matters. A guy who can put up stats like Mays and Musial while playing center field is better than a guy who puts up stats like Mays and Musial while playing first base.

no.....better stats are better stats

that is fact

anything else is subjective

So...Albert Belle was better than Ozzie Smith?

Albert was merely a corner outfielder...

I don't believe Ruth was the greatest ever just as I can't buy Walter Johnson as the best pitcher ever...

No way I take Walter Johnson over Roger Clemens

Did you see Walter Johnson pitch?
