DRAFT RULES & INFO

- All times listed are Eastern Standard Time.

- Do NOT pick before you're time slot unless ALL picks before you have already been made.

- If you will not be available during your time slot send a proxy pick to the person(s) selecting after you. I AM USUALLY AVAILABLE TO POST PROXIES.

- Trades are always welcome, however are subject to review by the commissioner to ensure fairness to both parties and the league as a whole.

- If you make an uneven trade (2 for 1, 3 for 2 etc.) keep in mind the team that gains a player will essentially lose a draft pick. Do NOT make an uneven trade if it will cause your roster to go over the maximum allowed active player total of 12.

- Please post any trades in this forum so that all owners can see them.

- Trades involving draft picks can only include the current draft season and the following draft year (96-97 & 97-98 for this season).

*********************** EXTREMELY IMPORTANT**********************
ALL TRADES MUST BE FAIR TO BOTH PARTIES AND STAND ON THEIR OWN MERIT i.e. RENT-A-PLAYER TRADES ARE NOT ALLOWED

- YOUR KEEPER ROSTER WILL BE FROZEN ONCE THE FIRST SELECTION IS MADE.

- YOU MUST LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE MADE A CHANGE TO YOUR KEEPER LIST AFTER YOU POSTED. In addition, you cannot change your draft needs unless it is done via a trade. You will not be permitted to hold onto players, thus keeping them from being on the "available players" list, then dropping them when someone on the draft board is more to your liking. You can however drop any player(s) that have been on your roster for 1 entire season for any undrafted player(s) once the draft is completed. You cannot dump players if you are under 19,000 total team minutes unless you are adding minutes.

- Some teams don't need their 1st or 2nd round picks because their rosters are full. However, the draft chocies are still valuable commodities that may be traded for next season's draft picks or players, etc. For that reason, picks will not be deleted from the draft schedule - even if no one uses them. That way, if there is a last minute trade made involving those picks, no one is able to pass them until their draft windows expire. Once the draft window expires and your roster is full that pick no longer can be used.

- The lottery selection and draft dates and time
Again we will use the New York lottery system. It's basically a keno draw where 20 random numbers are chosen between 1-80. There are 351 draws - every four minutes starting at Midnight and ending at 11:56 PM. We will select one days worth of drawings. Each team will be assigned a certain amount of drawings (time specific). The number of drawings each team will receieve is closely based on the actual NBA lottery percentages circa 1996 (details can be found in the draft lottery times) based on each teams respective 95-96 regular season record. Then once ALL the NY lottery selections have been made I'll add up each set of twenty numbers and the team with lowest combined total wins the 1st draft spot and so on. In the event of a tie I will compare each set of numbers starting with the lowest number in each selected set until one team wins. For example if two teams have a total of 621 and one set of the lowest numbers is (1, 2, 4, 7, 12 etc.) and another group has (1, 2, 3, 8, 14 etc.) the 1's cancel out, the 2's cancel out, and the 3 is lower than 4 so the 1, 2, 3, 8, 14 etc. set of numbers wins. I'm sure this sounds confusing but it's actually pretty simple. Again the advantage to using this system is we get the lottery selection process done in one day - speeding up the draft and giving owners more time to make trades and analyze the players in draft - plus there is no dispute like there could be using something like random.org.

Once the lottery selections have been determined that owner may pick at any time and so on without skipping other owners.

Draft times will be posted below. There will not be any time slots for the lottery picks - unless we are not making any progress. I will assign draft days and times and sitemail everyone with at least 48 hours notice - probably closer to a week. Most time slots will be one hour in time for all 1st and 2nd round selections. I will post the league number sometime during the draft.

************************THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT*************************
PLEASE SITEMAIL THE NEXT TWO OWNERS SELECTING AFTER YOU once you have made your selection so we can keep the draft running and hopefully avoid any skips.

- After ALL teams have completed their draft you may drop any player(s) that have been on your roster for 1 entire season for any undrafted player(s) once the draft is completed. It will be first come - first serve for these undrafted players AKA free agents. You must post who your taking and dropping in the draft forum.

The reasoning is we don't want an owner drafting a player, then cutting him after the draft in exchange for another player as it prevents that player from potentially be drafting and kept by another owner. Basically you drafted the player for a reason so use him. There's only been a few players that have been acquired in this way. We don't anticipate any problems with this as the undrafted players went undrafted for a reason.

LEAGUE RULES

- If you have a shortage of RL minutes at a given position you may use the eternal players from the 50's/60's that is/are designated to play that position ONLY.

- Owners are not permitted to purposely play ANY players out of position. While the commissioner understands that franchises are cyclical, owners are still required to play to win regardless of the talent level of their roster.

I hope this all makes sense. If you have any questions, concerns, comments let me know.

Thanks everybody!

Good luck and happy drafting.

LEAGUE NUMBER FOR THE 96-97 SEASON

NBA42819
12/4/2012 9:13 PM (edited)
Looks to me like the lottery order went by the book.
12/4/2012 8:51 AM
If so, the 9th pick is available for point guard that is great now
12/4/2012 10:57 AM
Okc Thunder is offering its 1st, 2nd and next yrs 1st for NOW talent. The now talent only needs to be good this year, however I'll entertain any offer. I can also pool players with picks for a superstar (near end of career is fine).
12/4/2012 5:08 PM
I don't think this is the best pick but I cant resist

Kobe Bryant

12/4/2012 9:40 PM
Voshon Lenard and bo outlaw are available. Looking for a high pick or a longterm talent in the frontcourt. I could toss in the 19th pick in the right deal. Would also consider adding in Michael Finley for the right deal. Sm me if interested.
12/4/2012 9:51 PM
