Sortable Fielding

1 Adrian Beltre TEX 129 129 1125 312 95 209 8 23 .974 2.43 0.0
2 Mike Moustakas KC 149 147 1314 454 127 312 15 41 .967 3.01 0.0
3 Miguel Cabrera DET 154 154 1322 383 127 243 13 31 .966 2.52 0.0
4 Kevin Youkilis BOS/CHW 111 107 894 248 62 177 9 20 .964 2.41 0.0
5 Alberto Callaspo LAA 131 122 1107 324 77 235 12 19 .963 2.54 0.0
6 Kyle Seager SEA 138 137 1209 338 99 226 13 20 .962 2.42 0.0
7 Brett Lawrie TOR 123 123 1072 374 84 273 17 23 .955 3.00 0.0
So you sorted by fielding percentage? It's hard to make an error on a ball you lack the range to reach.

Yeah, he finishes 3RD in AL fielding, playing MORE games than anyone at 3B and you idiots STILL call him a "bad" 3rd baseman. What a batch of tards...You should really have actually WATCHED him play 3rd this season. And to say he "wasn't comfortable" at third is just unreal. He won the TRIPLE ******* CROWN. How uncomfortable do you really think he was playing 3rd? Cabrera performed FAR beyond expectations as a 3B this year and was very good...period. And nothing you idiots say can change that as a FACT.

Is fielding percentage once again the ultimate measure of defense?

Is it 1962 again?

How successful are ****** teams?
How successful are teams that don't make the playoffs?

Which team had a more successful regular season:

Team A: 95-66

or

Team B: 82-79

?

I guess it depends on your definition of success.

If I make $100 and die from starvation in a pile of urine on the street, I don't think that's very successful.

If I make $5 and eat a Happy Meal in the warmth of Hardee's without stinking of urine, that's more successful.

What do think?

I'm on your side, shitknob.   Don't pretend he was a step away from being Brooks Robinson.  What he did at third shouldn't affect his hitting at all(assuming you consider him to be a professional).     He was adequate as a 3B.   And hit like he always does.

His 3B defense doesn't affect his hitting but it does affect how many game the Tigers win. So, you know, it still matters.

Since I think 99% of defensive stats are horseshit, your UBL, OMG, FBI and KBG stats don't mean jackshit to me when evaluting defensive value.

BL - can these numbers change from year to year?

Catcher: +12.5 runs (all are per 162 defensive games)
First Base: -12.5 runs
Second Base: +2.5 runs
Third Base: +2.5 runs
Shortstop: +7.5 runs
Left Field: -7.5 runs
Center Field: +2.5 runs
Right Field: -7.5 runs
Designated Hitter: -17.5 runs
If if these were the numbers in 1990, then Dykstra has quite an advantage over Murray before stats were even considered.
BTW, does anyone know how these arbitrary numbers were chosen?

I don't, but, for the sake of comparing Trout and Cabrera, it really doesn't matter, since they both get the same adjustment.
10/5/2012 2:22 PM
Seriously, everyone knows you're an alias.   Part of this, at least from me, is an attempt to figure out for who.    I'm thinking it's the departed JRDX, which is hilarious because tec is siding with you, but I'm not sure.

Yeah, it sort of does.   You know, if you want the validity of the formula to mean anything.

As your 5th grade algebra teacher said "Show your work."

I really wish I could remember the thread where JRDX kept going on about the only pitching stats that matter are K/BB/HR.    Because that's what I'm getting here except it's with WAR.

But it's not my work. The defensive stats might not be perfect but they're pretty widely accepted across baseball as good measuring sticks.
