I just had Bill Bernhard throw a perfect game with only one K for a total of 88 pitches in 9 IP.  That is the lowest pitch count I have seen for a game.  Anyone seen a lower one?

In 91.3 innings - 1964 Tony Cloniger gave up 4 HR's (RL he gave up 20 in 243IP) -

In 1 inning during the PM2 game he gave up 3.  The 1st two were understandable being that they were against 64 Willie Mays and 64Rocky Colovito - however, the third (the knife in the back was from the bat of 64 Jerry Adair (who you say??).  The best/worst part was that unlike Willie's and Rocky's solo back-to-back shots, Adairs was a grand slam.  Not exactly how you wanna start off the first inning TONY!!!!

Just joined an OL with only two 08 Addie Joss's.   I'm shocked!!!! MLB101574.   The Addie Joss strike is on baby!  Join the resistance!  Say no to Addie.

Hmm, they're talking site redesign. What would be the best way to suggest adding better tools for posting boxscores in the forums?

In my most-recently completed OL, 08 Addie Joss went deep 3 times.
I have Joss in an 80M team twist league.  After 35 games, he's up to his usual antics: 8-1 record, 2.41 ERA, Cy Young leader, etc.  But he's also providing pop at the plate.  In real life he hit 0 HR in 119 PA, but in this league, in just 37 PA, he's hit 2 HR -- good enough for 3rd best on the entire team!

Famous Baseball Quotes: Setting the Record Straight!

Everyone knows -- or believe they know -- what the broken-hearted young whelp shouted at Shoeless Joe Jackson outside that courthouse: "Say it ain't so, Joe!"

The actual line: "Put some shoes on, Joe!"

Believe It or Don't!

Then there was the old Braves rhyme that went "Spahn and Sain and pray for rain."  This was supposedly condensed from a poem by Boston sports writer Gerald Hern.  In fact, there was nothing in Hern's poem about rain.  Also, the poem didn't even rhyme.  Sample line: "Spahn and Sain and then pray that Red Barrett doesn't take another crap on the mound."

Believe It or Don't!

Baseball scribes are known to embellish quotes.  Understandable, since most ballplayers aren't all that original or forthcoming in interviews.  But what one Cleveland writer did back in 1948 really took the cake.  He asked Satchel Paige how old he was, and this is how the answer looked in print in the following day's paper: "Age is a case of mind over matter.  If you don't mind, it doesn't matter."  Sweet quote!

Alas, fabricated out of whole cloth.  Satch's actual reply: "Forty-one."

how did he finish up?  did he hit a third, or a fourth?

i don't remember if my addie hit is 3 homers at home or on the road, but we played our home games in kaufman, and i do remember that none of his shots were off fatigued pitchers.

100 games in now, and Addie's still stuck on 2 HR.  Good enough for the Silver Slugger award, though.  And he's 22-6 while the rest of the staff is 35-37, so I'll credit him as the main reason we're in first place by a game.

Believe it or not -

1948 Stan Musial just had 301 hits in a single season progressive
