i would like to add that i have seen people dismantle good teams and tank them as well...all steps are same except step 1...Glavine300

That doesn't even make sense.

sure it does...to have a young wold series caliber team full of studs that you don't have to pay instead of a world series caliber team that you do...check out the world history...

I'm saying breaking down a contender and losing for 18 months in order to contend later makes no sense.

Majority of the tankers I see never win.  Its seems to always be for them "next season or two seasons from now"

Regarding point #9: could that be considered a "DECADE OF DOMINANCE"?
5/26/2011 10:25 AM
Some tankers are chronic rebuilders.   They aren't comfortable with seven top two picks and eight 15m IFA on their roster.  They think they need 25 stars.

It could be.  Assuming you dominate.

What happens if there are 8-10 teams doing this in a world.......a race to 140 losses each season?
5/26/2011 10:54 AM
I haven't seen a world that bad.   But I'm sure there is a world out there with 3-4 owners trying to lose more than the next.   Just because you win 57 doesn't mean you weren't tanking.   It just means no one challenged you for the #1 pick.

I'd put something in there about dumping $36M of payroll to get an extra $18M of prospect budget

10.  Leave ML caliber players in the minors as long as possible - particularly in the season before you plan to go for it - especially if you're within spitting distance of the wild card.  And if you can still manage to keep in the bottom half, you'll protect the next 1st round pick.
11.  Leave your substitution patterns alone and then blame simmy for those patterns costing you games.
12.  Pitch your pitchers just a shade longer than you should.
13.  Let your pitchers work out of all of their jams.
14.  Attempt to steal early and often...with a slow team.
