Back when I could see other budgets, I went counter to the "popular" one.    If I were starting from scratch today, I'd attempt to determine how quickly I'd be needing cheap labor.   If it was within 2 seasons, I'd go college.   if it was more like 4-5, high school.

Isn't this difficult to make the switch as we can only move the scouting budget 4 million a year?

Not so much if you're dropping one due to high payroll.    I think I've got between 2-6m on a couple of my teams.   Dropping to 0 while raising the other wouldn't be a big deal.

If  I was offensively challenged I might.    But Snydergaard isn't a SS.   He'd be much better served at 2B or 3B.   Or even CF.

I understand that and I have played him as such in the past. Fwiw I think there are a lot of decent offensive options that could also play third, but not sure about SS. I also hope he will gain a couple more points in glove and ar accuracy early I'm the season.

two follow ups- how much do you project he would lose on defense compared to maxwell (and if that is in terms of outs, could you help converter to runs?)?

Second- does it matter at all that my second and third basemen would be way above avg defensively? (90 range and glove at second, 80 range at third, almost 80 glove)

It's a limited sample size but about 130 outs over a full season.   It depends on how you calculate these things when converting to runs.   He'd be giving up an additional 4.8 games worth of outs.   I'd say most worlds have a RS average of 700ish.   That's 4.5 runs per game.   4.8 x 4.5 = 21.6 runs.  

Players do not "cover" for one another.
