I just realized I was wrong... It will take the Isles 8 years to pay him off. That will make it 2015.

Contract Info
Yashin agreed to terms on the biggest contract package (at signing date) in NHL history in September of 2001, signing for nearly $90 million US in a 10-year deal. Islanders opted to buy out the final four years of the contract for a total of $17.63 million over the next eight years in June of 2007. Of course we wouldn't consider moving them to a place where they might actually succeed, like Canada.

Moving a poorly run franchise to Canada, will not make them any better.

Au contraire monsieur, usually when a franchise moves, major changes occur from the front office on down. The next franchise to move to Canada will have major money thrown at them. This is being proven by the rabid, big money billionaires who are doing everything they can to get another team into Canada. It would be interesting to see what would happen if a Canadian franchise actually had the funding thrown at them that the Detroit Red Wings get. You know, 20 international scouts instead of just 5, that sort of thing.

It could be that DiPietro sucks....
6/27/2009 11:57 PM
" GM Garth Snow told Islanders Point Blank that DiPietro's health status was not the motivation behind the selections."

I see he told the truth...

Mr. Snow would have selected a goalie in this draft the way he did, even if goalie DiPietro was 100% healthy, since the goalie's tanking on them! heh
