5. Win margin does not matter (two teams can beat the same team; one wins by 17, the other wins by 40, and both games are viewed as equal in the BPI) however LOSS MARGIN does. This is a concept I've drawn upon from comments made by Syracuse head basketball coach Jim Boeheim, who has essentially said that teams shouldn't be rewarded just for showing up and playing the top programs in the country. Therefore, the number of points a losing team earns depends on how many points they lost by. If a team gets blown out (Oklahoma-79, North Texas-10; LSU-45, Mississippi State-0; Michigan-38, Notre Dame-0, among others) they will receive 0 points for that particular game.
