I'm curious about this formula. I notice some possible inconsistencies with the rankings.

It'd be easier to address the suspected inconsistency. What are you seeing?

Al,

From what I remember from another explanation of your system, I suspect the difference is coming from the amount of weight that the WIS prestige system puts on the most recent season, whereas your system tends to reward long stretches of consistent success.

So the National Championship W. Florida won (congrats sportsguy - I'm still smarting over that Elite 8 loss!) bumps them to one of the 6-7 A+ programs in WIS, but no deep runs and 1 season of staying home in the 4 seasons prior to the Championship hurts him in your system.

I wasn't specifically referring to myself, although i think most recent success should be a very important factor. I was referring to Valdosta St. and Drury. I would think Valdosta should be ahead and also i don't think Drury should have jumped 30 spots with a 2nd round appearance even though they got rid of a non postseason appearance from 5 seasons ago

My system does reward consistency. It can really hurt when you miss the post-season. My feeling, too, is that a true 'Dynasty' program should have Final Four exposure. Drury's Final Four 2 seasons ago placed them one point ahead of Valdosta St.

W. Florida, with their just-won national championship, unfortunately missed the post-season 3 years ago. My rankings go back 5 years. Until that mediocre season rotates out of the formula, W. Florida will be hard placed to make the Top 10. Even a first round PIT loss in that year would've been enough to put them in the Top 10.

How does Valdosta's Elite 8 this past season compare to Drury's Final Four three seasons ago? Also how well do you have to do in the PI to compare to a 1st round exit in the NT?

The first round of the NT is worth 22 points. That's the equivalent of the PIT semi-finals

Hey alblack, when's the next update? I've enjoyed seeing the results.
7/8/2008 5:41 AM
Thanks, kas. I update the list at the end of each NT.

Great job as usual Al!

I was hoping to move up but poor coaching on my part prohibited that. Thats two years in a row that Fairmont St. has killed me in the national tourney!!

The rankings are very close. One more win in this NT and St. Thomas would be at #24

Thanks Alblack. I wasn't upset with the rankings, just poor performance on my end at not finishing strong this past season. I guess thats part of learning...which I'm still doing.

On a side note, I need to schedule a non-conference game against your team here soon. Looks like your booked up next season but maybe we can get one in the following season.
