Are David Robinson and Ben Wallace going to make fun of Elton Brand's weak defense?

21,408 minutes. 26k left over. Can’t argue with the talent. I wonder who enters the least minutes. Impossible to imagine anyone with under 20,000.

Last leagues 3 best teams drafted 1, 23, 24 - so there was a distinct advantage. I predict that won't be the case this time.

Not thrilled with my Def and OReb, but I probably could have done worse. Besides the division evals, would appreciate input from other owners. Still learning here.

My initial observation is that ysw128 drafted Greg Oden 1-3 so he can't be on your team. You can choose your bench players from anyone who hasn't already been drafted or been made ineligible by the only one player per price range rule.

Gotcha, I must have glanced past his name when I looked at the 1-3. No worries, I have other options I'd considered. Changing it now.

CENTRAL DIVISION

My take and obviously very subjective. Finding small distinctions that separate very good teams from each other is not as easy task. I can easily be 10 or more wins off with any of these teams.

Good on Paper- Moses Malone-Larry Bird-John Stockton-Rudy Gobert-Dennis Rodman-Manu Ginobili-Mark Price. This is a good offensive rebounding team that should get a lot of 2nd chance opportunities. Moses brings a solid all-around game but the offense is built around Bird. Stockton, Ginobili, Dumars and Price should provide plenty of assists. Team efg% is not on par with some of the other teams in the division, but those 2nd chances off of offensive rebounds and the high assist level should help compensate for the efg% concern. The defense is nothing special partly because shot blocking is a weakness. The bench should contribute offensively but their defense is spotty. This team will need to score points to win. Now, I’m beginning to think that maybe we’re not really that good on even on paper. Too many areas of mediocrity. I’ll go with 35-40 wins here.

Blockade- Wilt Chamberlain, Chris Paul -Bill Walton-Klay Thompson-Gerald Wallace- Andre Kirilenko- Donyell Marshall-Pau Gasol. This team-oriented version of Wilt along with Walton are a dominating and well-rounded inside presence, maybe even a blockade, who contribute in just about every aspect of the game. Paul and Klay area nice complements who provide the bulk of the usage. Donyell at SF, is the perfect bridge between front and backcourts. Defensively, this team minimizes fouls and is solid throughout. It should be among the better teams in both blocks and steals. The bench is probably the best in the division. Wilt stays in the game when the bench comes on the court and we have now the high ast% Stockton along with the 100 D of Wallace and Kirilenko to contend with. The bench does change the character of the team but will be a very effective group nonetheless. A well-constructed team. that is very tough up front. Let’s go with 45-50 wins.

Central Florida Murder Birds- Anthony Davis-Dennis Rodman-Artis Gilmore-James Harden-Nick Anderson- Enes Kanter-Nate McMillan-David West. Harden and Davis will carry the bulk of the offense with an inside-outside balance and reasonably good efficiency. Rodman and Gilmore, with his inside offense contribution, are a nice complement with excellent rebounding on both ends and will get possessions for the 2 scorers. The starters are adequate defensively and force TOs. The assists are on the low side but may not matter much, particularly with Harden being prolific from 3 and Davis being able to create his own shot. The bench, with West and MacMillan, defends well and is efficient in their offensive contribution. Kanter does not defend well, but should provide just enough highly-efficient offense and more than adequate rebounding. Nicely balanced. Let’s say 40-45 wins

Fear the Beard- James Harden-DeAndre Jordan-Dennis Rodman-Chris Paul-Donyell Marshall- Steph Curry-Kyle Lowry- Alonzo Mourning. With 754 made 3’s, Harden leads a high-powered, 3-pt. driven offense with a very impressive team efg% . Mourning adds an inside offensive game and he and Haerden pretty much make for all the usage required. Deandre Jordan is a very good fit in the middle as his game is Orb% and Drb% is complementary to the two big scorers. Kyle Lowry adds still more 3’s. A few more assists rather than 3s would have been a positive for this team. The Defense is tough up front but team fouls are on the high side, particularly with Mourning in the middle of things. Rodman, Curry, Paul and Valanciunas are a nice unit coming off the bench. They provide good usage and their skills should mesh well. Maybe light on assists and heavy on fouling. I think 35-40 wins, but I could be wrong on this.

Good Luck Morons- Karl Malone-John Stockton-Anthony Davis-Kyrie Irving-Clyde Drexler-Shawn Kemp-Al Horford- Dikembe Mutombo. Points come from all directions beginning with the classic Stockton-Malone combo and continuing with Davis and Irving. Just about everyone brings high usage and as many assists as Stockton produces, he may not be able to keep everyone happy as there are only so many possessions in a game. A plus is that all 5 starters, led by Anthony Davis and his 96, play a high caliber defense. Mutombo brings good D inside and a much needed ORB% that should help the others get 2nd opportunities. The bench, led by Kemp and Drexler, is highly productive with an impressive combination of rebounding and efg%. A bit too much usage may not allow some of these guys to do what they do best. Somewhere around 40-45 wins.

Thick and Rich I Wish- Shaquille O’Neal-Steph Curry- Lebron James-Steve Nash-Shawn Marion- DeAndre Jordan-Rudy Gobert-Charlie Ward. This Shaq_Lebron led team is the most efficient team in the division. Amazingly, no one on the squad is below 55% efg%. Noting this, I’m now looking for weaknesses. Rebounding checks out as competitive on both sides of the floor. Assists? Nash, Lebron and Curry provide all that is needed. TOs are fine and none of the major contributors are foul prone. The defense is not top notch but outside of Nash, no real weak links. A hefty number of made 3’s (675) is another plus. The only thing I’m seeing is maybe not getting to the line enough and FT% that is on the low side (Shaq). The bench is well balanced offensively with good efg% and solid rebounding on both ends. Great efficiency is golden. Say 50-55 wins.

MIDWEST DIVISION

Better get this in before we get too far into it and the smoke gets let out of the crystal ball.

Dash of Wilt - Garnett, Pippen, CP3, DeAndre Jordan, Nikola Jokic, Charlie Ward, Camby, and a dash of Wilt. also a dash of Mark Price. I really like using KG extended minutes at SF. When he's in at SF this team should win the rebound battle. Several guys on this team like Pippen, Jokic, and Garnett are "hustle board" players who bring extra assists and rebounds to their position. Look for this team to average more possessions and shot attempts than their opponents, which they'll need to overcome their average shooting. With the exception of Jokic, the higher usage guys don't shoot better than 53-54%, with Garnett being the highest usage guy on the floor shooting 50.8%. However, the team has good balanced usage which should maximize their efficiency. Again with the exception of Jokic, the strong defense will hopefully keep their opponents shooting under their average and by winning the possession battle keep them in the playoffs.

Wins: 48

Galveston Grubs - Bird, Moses, Kemp, Fat, CP3, A-Train, Logo, Drummond, and Eddie Johnson. One of the Bird-Moses combos. Unfortunately, I expect the other Moses-Bird team to outperform this one. This Moses-Bird combo just doesn't shoot well enough at 50.1% and 53.8% efg for 26% and 28.5% usage. The two guys who do score efficiently Artis and Drummond both have less than 17.5% usage. And I actually prefer 93-94 Kemp to 95-96 for the extra defense and less turnovers, but this one does shoot better so it's a close decision. Still, there's some things to like about this team. For starters, Moses and Drummond are strong on the offensive boards, I would have one of them in the game at all times. Fat Lever and CP3 are good for steals, and Bird still dominates his position. I don't like high usage Jerry West shooting less than 50% efg and it's the generally below average shooting that will keep this team out of the playoffs.
Superhero: 1/2 of the Wonder Twins
Playoffs: No
Wins: 35

US - Lebron, KAT, Bradley Beal, Capela, Conley, Redick, Thomas Bryant, Derrick Rose, Jonas Valanciunas. For starters, you picked $9-11M Lebron and didn't draft the 12-13 Lebron season. Not that 17-18 Lebron isn't a great player-season... but the 12-13 Lebron is arguably the best player-per-minute in the WIS pool. That being said, for the most part this is a really great shooting team. You overdrafted usage though, which would be a waste of money in a league where salary cap would matter. You have 10 guys with over 20% usage, so you really don't need Conley at 27% usage shooting 50.7%. He brings down your average shooting percentage, you'd have been better off to pick a PG in that range who gives you more assists. The lack of assists won't boost your shooting percentage, but you already shoot very well to begin with so you should still outshoot most teams. You'll need this because you're lack of rebounding will give you less possessions than your opponents. This is almost the opposite drafting strategy we saw in Dash of Wilt. Can you shoot your way into the playoffs? It'll be close, with 12-13 Lebron you woulda made it.
Superhero: Deadshot
Playoffs: No
Wins: 38

Giant Steps - Durant, Shaq, Goggles, Camby, Harper, Arvydas, Joakim, Chauncey, and Ray Allen. If you're playing Durant at SG and HoGrant at SF then I really like this team. You're using the best seasons of all your top players in their price range. The usage is balanced and for the most part the guys with usage shoot better than 55%. Ray Allen is a puzzle, don't need him shooting 51.1% with 27.9 usage, but he doesn't play a whole lot of minutes so generally a very good shooting team. Four positions are contributing to rebounding, both defensive and offensive. Assists are light, but enough not to be hurt by it. Defense is average. Don't let the 1-3 start get you down, this team is playoff bound.
Superhero: Spiderman
Playoffs: Yes
Wins: 48

Special Weapons and Tactics - Admiral, Brand, Big Ben, Ginobili, Butler, Patrick Beverly, Stockton, Rudy Gay, Tyson Chandler. The Admiral anchors this team for sure, and Brand makes a very fine SF. There's good players at each position, I'm just not sure it comes together to make a good team. You only have one guy with over 20% assists, and Stockton only plays about 23 mpg. You do have good balanced scoring, with your shooters in the 53-55% range. Very strong defensive team on the inside that should hold opponents mid-range shooting down, but average perimeter defense. Push Ben Wallace hard if you make the playoffs, his rebounding could make the difference.
Superhero: Punisher
Playoffs: No
Wins: 41

Death to Smoochy - Superman, Nance, Admiral, Magic, CP3, Kawhi, Whiteside, Kyle O'Quinn, DeAndre Jordan, AK-47. Well, this is how it's done. Monster rebounding on both ends. Solid assists coming from CP3 and Magic. The shooting belongs in a McDonald's commercial. If this team was a superhero it would be Shazam!
Playoffs: Champion
Wins: 70

Atlantic Division

Jpevans31: Bastards and Broken Things: I’m always intrigued by team names, this one sounds like a Game of Thrones episode… I’ll have to google that. As for the draft I didn’t love the new Curry at 4 overall. I think there are better Curry’s and better other players too. I will say I reserve full judgement until I complete some really good analysis of available players by price range. So, if there is a shortage of $6 million dollar players and an abundance of $7 million dollar players – I guess I could understand that. But without doing that research I doubt it. I think you just take the best possible player overall. I like the $7mill Curry options better. More minutes, some better D with variable 3’s depending on what you need. Probably better than that is $8 mill LeBron.
Pairing $8 mill Stockton with Curry is interesting. The most typicaly Stockton with more 3’s was off the board, but you had a head start on 3’s with Curry and Stockton will add some D. Solid selection.
Not so sure on $7 mill Rodman. PF eligible only with only ‘good’ D. He does one thing, and one thing only. And that thing in rebounds is easy to get, especially in this draft format. Fit is ok, had to be better value here like $7 mill Whiteside; $7 mill Gobert or even $7 mill Shaq.
$9 mill McAdoo I also don’t love here. Again, not a bad pick – but I’d have rather seen usage earlier to someone in the 60% efg range. It’s hard to calibrate in this league, but there’s so much talent available I worry about giving McAdoo and his 55% efg more shots than anyone else. He’s good, just not great. Can you win in this format with McAdoo leading your team in shots?
I like the $4 mill Whiteside in the 5th. Good value here. His best rebounding season, which is saying something for him. Still good efficiency. You should have enough FC rebounding to cover your weak rebounding guards.
Danny Green and Jose Calderon are nice guards to grab off the bench and I like Harrell too, although I think you’re pretty light in assists with your second team.
Summary: Looking at the overall roster you filled in SF fairly well with Ibaka and you grabbed Mark Jackson to help with assists and even DeAndre for boards of the bench. I think this is a solid team, but probably not great and will have a hard time competing for the division title.
Prediction:
43 wins
3rd in the division
playoff bubble

Wonder Boys: Knox: perhaps a relative of Kevin? Going with big bad Rodman at SF is bold. In a typical draft league you’ve dug yourself in a usage and passing hole – but in this format no reason to think you can’t fill that in later.
The Freak in the 2nd round would theoretically be a good pick, but you have now drafted two straight SF’s. 16-17 Freak is 98% eligible, but would be a bad idea to give up position efficiency so early. Your rebounds would be off to a crazy good start if you do that, but you have no perimeter shooting. A bad pick combined with Rodman
I do like $7 mill Whiteside. You need to keep the usage going and he has solid efg for a 3rd rounder. And obviously great rebounds. I’m getting intrigued by this teams’ rebounding….
There’s nothing not to like about Terry Porter and his super efficient $6 mill season. Really good fit on any team. The question remains what are we doing about Giannis and Rodman….
$4 mill Wade I guess is a supersub with super usage. I have no problems taking great bench players early, there’s so much talent available. My concerns at this point is your lack of perimeter shooting.
Al Horford is interesting, he gives some efficiency and assists and perimeter shooting depending on the season and you needed both of those.
Iguodala’s $3 mill season gives a little of everything, although I think he’ll compete with Wade for minutes or worse, you’re playing Wade at PG
No opinion on Larry Nance $1-3 except that he should struggle to find the floor.
Summary: Took Tobias Harris undrafted, who I like and Jimmy Butler, who I do not like at all. You managed to scrape together over 500 made 3’s, so not bad. But I’m not sure who’s getting playing time. My biggest problem is that is seems you took SF Rodman to play him at PF and that is just a waste. You put some nice pieces around him, but it’s hard for me to think you can compete for the playoffs when you kind of threw away your 1st round pick.
Prediction:
35 wins
5th in the division
Miss playoffs

Coachcroft: Stair Down: there are a lot of alpha dogs on this squad to stair each other down. In the first round coach when with the shinny new LeBron. It’s a partial season, but a pretty good season. At first glance I’d have thought there was a better option even late in the first, but it’s a really good season to build off. Early in the 2nd coach went with a great Kidd season – also easy to build around, with great D, 3’s, boards and assists. Late in the 3rd coach grabbed one of the last good Shaq seasons, setting himself up nicely for a good inside out combo. Then on the wrap, early in the 4th he goes with aging Jordan. This will make or break the team I believe. Not among his most efficient shooting season and doesn’t have the crazy steal and block season when he was younger, but a super clean TO and PF season and still gets to the line a fair amount. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
Just when I thought this team couldn’t get crazier, coach went with a young Dr J in the 5th – who when I looked at him is surprisingly similar to old man Jordan, and a better defender. Among the most talented starting 5 I’ve ever seen, but there’s a LOT of usage going on with only ok efficiency. Artis Gilmore in the 6th is a solid pick. Should be good behind Shaq, good interior player with efficiency. Chris Andersen in the 7th is a defensive specialist for the 2nd team that can cover all 3 FC positions. Another efficient scorer. In the 8th coach went with Beaubois, a very good shooter off the bench.
Summary: Of note for undrafted players is Buck Williams, a very underrated forward who at that salary brings 90 defense with efficient scoring. No longer a plus rebounder, but he won’t hurt you too much. I would pay BIG MONEY to watch this team scrimmage in practice. Coach has a lot of options, plenty of scoring, defense and rebounding. Maybe not quite as many assists as you’d like for all the shooting. I think it will come down to how efficiently this team can score.
Prediction:
45 - 50 wins
2nd in the division
Playoffs

Dh: ThereAreTooManyRaptorsOnMyTeam: I agree! Even 1 is too many!!! Picking late in the first DH went with young CP. Not the most efficient version of CP, but he’s a beast. I seem to recall league years ago that had to implement rules that you couldn’t purposefully rest players because of this version of CP. Some owner or owners would rest him against weaker opponents and then play him 48 against everyone else and he was almost unstoppable. Outside of the efg, it’s hard to find a better PG. In the 2nd DeAndre fits in nicely with boards, D and interior. Hopefully they can be more successful here than they were with the Clippers. Another great grab in the 3rd with Dwight Howard. Not quite as many minutes as his top versions, but there’s so much value in this league that’s a small factor. Next in the 4th, new Kawhi is the first pick I don’t love for this team. His defense isn’t great (yet) and outside of rebounds, he only gives you usage with good not great efg. Not a ton of 3’s either. Later in the 3rd I like the Klay pick a lot better. Gives that great D that season with a crap ton of 3’s. Perhaps a little light on assists even with CP. Ibaka keeps the defensive theme going, guessing at 99% he’ll see time at SF for the most part. Solid pick, still would like to see assists. Richuan Holmes and Chandler in the 8th are good solid role players.
Summary: I like this team a lot, my only concern is light on the assists. But a great defensive team with really good boards. Shaq undrafted is a really nice bench usage guy. This team should do very well.
Prediction:
50 wins, maybe more
Division winner
Playoffs
Maglor: Modern Times: not sure on that team name, but I like Kareem in the 1st. Young Kareem does it all, scoring – effiently, defense, cleanliness. Not yet a great passer. Good foundation to build on. KD’s last season in OKC is a very nice one. Great efficiency, dreb and assists and plenty of 3’s at SF. TO’s slightly high, but otherwise a lot to like. Magic’s 89-90 season here is an interesting fit here. At this point in his career he’s shooting 3’s and TO’s are declining. Still good rebounding for a PG and plenty of assists. The new DeAndre season is another one to like. 90 D is gone but he’s still 70 and great rebounds and efg. Nice pick beside Kareem. Mookie in the 5th I don’t love here. With Magic you have your PG (and I don’t love him playing SG or SF unless you’re going max assists, which you’re not) and could use a 3 point sniper. His D is very nice, but there must be so many better options here. I do like that new Favors season. Great D, super efficient and while the dreb will scare people off, the oreb are top notch. Like the pick. Broken down old man Bird is a good grab for this team. Much needed assists and still solid in most other areas. Pat Connaughton is a strangely versatile player, not great at anything but good at everything.
Summary: No one too significant in the undrafted rounds. There are parts of this team I like, but I’m hung up on the SG Magic/Mookie combo. In this league I’m not sure you can afford a slip up at even one position and I think that will cost you. You have a lot of my favorite players (outside of D bag Kareem) so I’ll be rooting for you.
Prediction:
35-40 wins
4th place
Miss playoffs
JCRed5: Superman and the Joker: pretty lame team name from me, as usual. I was ok with Howard in the mid first. Not the greatest spot to pick from. The best of the best are gone and I’m not sure there’s a big difference between the 13th and the 24th pick in this draft. Barkley in the mid second is theoretically good. My plan of efficient scoring, rebounding with the usual inside out is on track. Just need to make sure I don’t sacrifice too much D. I don’t love Billups, even in the 3rd round here. Some people swear by him, not me. But I need 3’s bad, I needed a perimeter defender and he’s one of the cleanest players in the sim. I love this Jokic season. I told myself with Howard there for protection, we’ll be fine. Not sacrificing too much D yet. One of the hardest things for me to find is that perfect SG. You want efficient 3’s and lots of them, you want solid boards, you want D and you need assists depending on your SF or FC selection. My logic here is that if you take Jokic, my SG pick becomes much easier pick. So that’s my logic. And in the 5th I execute on that with Danny Green, but he’s such a meh pick for this draft. I wanted to maintain some D and convinced myself that with Barkley at SF, I don’t need the boards. I can tell you there were several guys I was hoping would be there (Kyrie and Conley specifically) who went off the board just ahead of me.
In retrospect Korver in the 6th was a bad idea. I needed more SG to cover Green’s partial and thought “what would ben do” Problem is I’m not ben! I now have two SG who do basically nothing but stand in the corner. Walton in the 7th behind Jokic is nice and Andersen gives me much needed D on my second unit.
Summary: I misunderstood the rules and took only undrafted players under $1 mill because I thought you couldn’t draft two players in a price range – my bad. I was shocked at this point I was actually getting low on money and still needed minutes at PG and SF. So I grabbed enough minutes. I’ve since sent a ticket to swap out for Rondo to back up Billups and a new JaMychal Green season for SF. I didn’t budget plan at all because of the $56 mill cap and had to scramble for back ups. Worse – I didn’t draft enough defense. My offense should be good, but it won’t be so good that it will cover up for my D
Prediction:
