Well, your OPS on a walk is 1. So I guess if your hitter has an OPS better than 1, you'd rather have him swing? So if your guy is Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Lou Gehrig, Barry Bonds, Jimmie Foxx, Hank Greenberg, or Rogers Hornsby, maybe you'd prefer if he didn't walk so much.
Of course, the reality is that OBP*1.7 + SLG is a much better measure of offensive value than OBP+SLG. By that measure, even Ruth doesn't quite make it to 1.5, making 1.7 for a walk still better than swinging the bat. For every player in Major League history.
