Tec, are you actually stupid enough to think Edgar Martinez DOESN'T belong in the HOF?
If he's such a no-brainer HOFer, they why has he never received more than 36.5% of the vote in his six years on the ballot?

Maybe YOU shouldn't be calling others "stupid".

Because, for the most part, the people that vote for the hall of fame are writers not analysts.

Maybe the analysts can start their own Baseball Hall of Fame.  But until they do, you can STFU.

WRITERS DON'T UNDERSTAND ADVANCED METRICS!!!!   WE NEED ANALYSTS TO DO THE VOTING!!!!!

So why don't Sabermetricians create their own hall of fame, with the best BABIP hitters or the best FIP pitchers?

Um, ok.

I thought the goal was to put the best players in the hall, not only put in the players the writers like best.

My bad.

The writers typically do a pretty good job, though they have put some unworthy candidates in recently.

They can have their own website and everything!

You'd think somebody with over 100 seasons of HBD would recognize the value of a guy who gets on base so consistently for so many years.  Maybe this is why you have over 100 seasons with 0 titles.

You always did prefer to appeal to authority instead of making an actual point.  At least evil_twin said some things about Edgar's actual career.

It's not hard to do a "pretty good job." My eight year old could also do a "pretty good job." (Most of the major **** ups have been committee selections)

Where they suck is when they actually have to analyze. It's easy to put Randy Johnson and Frank Thomas is. It's harder when you have to decide between Jim Rice and Edgar Martinez, Tom Glavine and Mike Mussina, Curt Schilling and John Smoltz. Those votes are where the writers lack the ability to do the job they have been tasked with.

Edgar Martinez is 20th on the career OBP list.  The only other qualified members of the top 30 not in the HOF are Max Bishop and Cupid Childs.

Actually, I guess technically Lefty O'Doul is eligible.  But you're never going to put a guy with under 4000 caeer PA in for his hitting.

Should they go in, too?

Am I "appealing to authority"?  I've argued in detail about EM's HOF creds in other threads.  Why repeat myself?
