Just going over my roster so far and realizing this league is going to be a hoot.  It's probably Bad News when your best defender is Marvin Barnes...

I agree.....tough to field a good defensive team with only ABA players....just drafting has been a blast though.

I have enjoyed mining through all the old guys -

Almost always, when doing a decade draft,
I remember the guy - aided by basketball cards from my childhood in may cases.

Whit this ABA draft - there are several guys I have no connection to, never heard of him, and or no mental picture of the guy...

This has easily been the toughest theme draft I have ever attempted-

WOW

I think my favorite theme is the alumni league (I'm a Kentucky guy),
and smokey's decade series -

The 50's/60's one is tough -
but the ABA is hard because there is such a range of numbers you MUST consider -
plus the team you have to build is so different then the run of the mill team built in most themes

been a tough challenge -

Carolina Cougars  Larry Miller

I lost Goerge Karl my other UNC favorite as a kid.  I am truly clueless drafting basketball players. I understand baseball.  I am concerned about this league because of pace of the other league.  Will it disband before it starts?  The ABA did play.
patience ...

how about finding a copy of "Loose Balls" as part of pre-season preparation ? ...
LOVE that book-

I started reading it again a couple of weeks ago, and it's the reason I wanted to attempt to launch this ABA theme -
I MUST READ for any basketball junky

I actually really don't know how to draft in this league.  I can't find the balance of rebounds and assists I usually look for, 3s are virtually non-existent, and average D will be terrible.  I suppose we're all in the same boat, but it's hard not to look at my team and wince a little.

But GREAT move in effectively doubling the player pool by running two parallel drafts.  I think you've hit upon the ideal way to run an ABA league given that the hoops game doesn't offer variable league size.

I am in the 'same boat'

A better exercise in having to think outside the box than I anticipated.

thanks for the positive feedback in splitting the league in half holding a parallel league draft .

ps: I'm still wanting to crush the snot out of Denver - I'm looking for a rival, and always want to wear the black hat

I would not have played a basketball theme or league if it wasn't the ABA idea.  I would consider a 60's or maybe 70's theme.  The ABA theme brought this newbie here.
I have been enjoying the past players .  I actually have flashes of their cards as I research, if you call it that for me.  Twenty wins may be a good season.  I win about 2 out of 10 using ABA guys by year in exhibition seasons.
