Walter Johnson - FILLED Topic

Hello all,

We have just finished the World Series in Walter Johnson (formerly Sharkey's World), and are looking for owners to take on open teams. We are a fun, laid-back world with limited rules (see below). We also offer a $25 WiS GC prize (FREE SEASON) to the new owner who shows the largest win increase from the previous season (details below). Available teams are listed in the next post.

Let me know if you are interested or have any questions. Thanks!

League Rules:

1. Minimum Win Requirement: 50/110/180.

2. Limitation of owner relocation Owners may only relocate their team once every seven seasons. Owners wishing to stay after replacing another owner mid-season will be allowed to move their team the season following their replacement season without having it count towards this rule. This rule would take effect after rollover in Season 20, therefore moves made at the start of Season 20 will not count towards this rule.

3. New Owner Incentive: A $25 WiS GC (FREE SEASON) will be awarded to the "rookie" owner in their respective "rookie" season who has the largest improvement in win total from the previous season. "Rookie" owners are considered owners who have newly joined Walter Johnson and who have not had a team in Walter Johnson during the preceding three seasons. Should an owner take over a team they have previously owned at any point in Walter Johnson history, they will be disqualified from receiving the award. Should a winning new owner be unqualified to win the award (either previously owning the team they manage or previously owning any Walter Johnson team three seasons prior), the next highest total will win the award. Should there be no winners (including 100% retention from previous season), 50% will roll over into the next season's New Owner Incentive. Mid-season replacements will be disqualified from winning the award in the season they replace, but should they buy-in for the next season, their 1st buy-in season will count as their "rookie" season.

FOR SEASON 28: Last year's winner has forfeited his winnings in order to promote the league. Therefore, there will be one winner of the $25 WiS CG, a 2nd place prize of a $15 CG, and two more $5 CG for 3rd and 4th. In short:

Highest win total: $25 GC
2nd highest: $15 GC
3rd and 4th: $5 GC

Colorado is our lone team left.  You are reading this because you are looking for another team.
Here are some facts to consider:

1) this team can be rid of all major contracts except Derrick Borders' after the season ends.
2) There are several solid pieces in place that you can either build on or use as trade chips to bring additional prospects.
3) The last Four seasons of drafts this team had two first round picks each year.  That has provided some solid prospects in the system.

Arb eligible Travis Daniels  is only 26 years of age.  His .290 average, 47 HRs and 110 RBIs make him a solid piece of any lineup.  27 year old Stefen Nicolino  is another young star.  His .317 average is backed up by solid power numbers with 39 HRs and 94 RBIs.  Veterans Sammy Maxwell (51 HRs 112 RBIs and a .295 average)  and 30 year old Derrek Borders (31 HRs 105 RBIs and a .278 average allow you the flexibility to build or trade.  No less then 8 first round picks were selected in the past four seasons.  Two were traded away, but the six who remain are either on the Big League roster or poised to join soon.  One of them, Doc Loney  is already making an impact in the field.  His growth shows no sign of stopping and you can expect improvement at the plate in his second ML season.  Three others are on the ML staff.  Starter Joey Ruth  and RP Aaron Humphries  could be joined by  Chin-Hui Martin this season.  The other first round selections were position players D.T. Everidge and Gregg Reid.  With a solid Spring camp. Reid may be ready to contribute the Big league squad this season.  Everidge is probably three seasons away.

The bottom line ?  The contract obligations are very small this season and get down to one major contract next season.  Control of all those contracts means you have the flexibility to either pick up some players and compete right now or trade away key pieces and work your own rebuild.  Let Santa put a little something in your stocking  this year, and get started building that WS champ you always wanted.
