they beat a ****** team, though they did actually look half way decent for the first time all year.

TAMU wasn't a ****** team until they started getting smoked on the reg by legit contenders.   Pretty sure they were top 10 at one point.

From what I've seen, TAMU and UCLA probably aren't top 10 teams.   Just not sure who I'd put in there to replace them.   FSU is not the best team in the nation but, other than ND, they play no one who should challenge them.    This week should tell us who's who.

TAMU/Miss St
BAMA/Ole Miss
Oklahoma/TCU
Stanford/ND
LSU/Auburn
Nebraska/MSU

Twelve teams face one another in top 25 match-ups.
And this appears to be dead on.

TAMU, OK, Stanford, LSU and Nebraska are done.    Bama is the only team that lost who's a legit contender.

Early rankings don't mean anything.  Texas A&M was never a good team.  They were ranked because they were unbeaten and had beaten South Carolina who was vastly overranked themselves.  And they were coming off an OT win to Arkansas at that time.  ARKANSAS.  their other wins were Lamar, Rice, and SMU. Not exactly a whose who.  Texas A&M never should have been ranked 6th as they just aren't anything more than an average team at best.    Also not sure why you are bringing up the Alabama score against A&M and comparing it to the teams from Mississippi.  Why not bring up the 23-17 score, you know when Alabama lost to one of those teams.

Alabama played well for the first time all year.  Maybe that is a sign of times coming or maybe it is just a reflection on how bad Texas A&M is.  Are we supposed to ignore Alabama's other games.  Like say the 14-13 beautiful win against Arkansas.  Or the 23-17 loss to Mississippi.  Or the 10 point win to West Virginia.  Or the struggle against Florida before tacking on some late scores to make the game look like a blowout.  Maybe Alabama runs the table.  They certainly have the coaching and talent to do it, or maybe they lose to Miss. State, Auburn, and LSU.  Who knows, but I wouldn't put much faith in a blow out against Texas A&M.

It's pretty simple.

Bama has a top 10 recruiting class since, oh I don't know, forever.
Saban is one of the best coaches in college football.
So, in a reasonable mind, where does that put them?

In the top 4.

And, for the record, I don't like Bama or Saban.   I just know what I know.
but that all applies to quite a few teams, which you don't give the benefit of the doubt to. It just seems you are ignoring the actual games, which seems like a silly way to determine who the best teams are.
No, I saw the games.   Better athletes, better coach, execution not so good.    That can be fixed.    I'm speculating that it will be by December.
This.

No, I don't believe that.   I saw most of the TAMU game.    SC couldn't apply any rush or cover any receivers.    Guess what they lost in the off-season?   SC might just be bad defensively.   TAMU will have plenty of opportunity to move up.

If I had put up a poll before the season, it would have looked something like this:

FSU
Bama
Oregon
Auburn
Oklahoma
Mich State
UCLA
SC
Baylor
GA/LSU

I'd have dropped OSU due to Miller's injury.  The only game I saw that changed my mind was TAMU/SC.  TAMU is in there with LSU/Stanford/USC/ND just on the outside looking in.
Me believing in TAMU?  Not so much.    Although I did have them somewhere between 15-20.

Right so if you didn't think A&M was that good, why do you think it was a great win by Alabama?  I guess that is my point.  They didn't go in an manhandle Auburn or one of the Mississippi teams.  They didn't even do it to LSU.  They did it to a pretty mediocre team.  Sure it is better to win those games by 60 than barely win, but at the end of the day they beat a mediocre team. I realize that is all you have with Alabama since they have looked pretty poor in a number of wins (and obviously lost a game) and it is the most recent game, but you are acting like they ran the table and made the playoffs, something that has decidedly not happened.
10/24/2014 11:10 AM
Well, they did beat TAMU by a lot more than your heralded Miss teams.   If you're going to give those teams credit for beating TAMU, Bama deserves more.

Ole Miss rallied and won late against Bama.   Outgained in yardage by 70ish.
Miss St snuck past LSU(and no one thinks they're good now) and beat Auburn convincingly.

Beyond that, neither of those teams have beaten anyone either.

How different would your view of Ole Miss be had Bama not been picked in the end zone with a minute left in the game?
10/24/2014 11:45 AM
If Alabama won the game, Alabama would be the clear #1 team even with their struggles in a number of games.  That is what happens when you win games not when you lose them.
10/24/2014 3:31 PM
You still seem to be stuck on rankings/results in the first half of the season instead of best teams in December.    If the college playoff system was simply going to be "best record" first, there would be no need for a committee.   Just plug in the numbers into the ol' BCS computer and let it pick the top 4.    A lot of people want that anyway.
