Low WE Test #1, Tarv-style Topic

Recruited a 13-WE post. Started 26 games as a freshman, out of 29. Played 17.8 MPG. Had pretty good starting ratings, or else I wouldn't have recruited him. The hope is that he's a good backup by tournament time of his sophomore year (where I expect to have a chance at a deep run) and then a legit starter by his junior year at D2 level. We'll see how it goes. Had the standard 20 minutes in all the blue categories as a freshman, except passing. Had maintenance level minutes in LP and FT and none in BH or PER. Improved 5-8 in blue categories (SB started out blue) with 20 minutes. Improved 2-4 in black categories with 20 minutes.

This is how he looks after his freshman season:

Guy started at

ATH: 47
SPD: 42
REB: 58
DEF: 50
SB: 52
LP: 67
PER: 1
BH: 16
P: 36
ST: 65
FT: C+

If he can duplicate his gains next season, I'm looking at

ATH: 61
SPD: 46
REB: 74
DEF: 62
SB: 62
LP: 67
PER: 1
BH: 8
P: 44
FT: C+

going into his sophomore year NT. I'd be pretty comfortable with that as a second-string post at D2.

His IQs are only C/C+ after his first year though, so I'll have to keep an eye on that. Even with all the starts, he's not learning fast.

Couple things:

1. Watch the off season "gains". They seem pretty random to me but WE has some affect.

2. Thirteen seems like the upper limit of the "3" for WE gain. I know a 16 WE will gain 4 in WE with 26 starts, I think 15 will as well.

3. Thirteen is probably pretty close to the max gain of 8 as well in non LP or PER skills limit. Guys in the 13-20 range generally grow no more than 8 in blue skills.

4. Dudes with low WE can be very good if you can't start them right away.

This guy wasn't bad and has jumped up 27 points in his junior year with 8 WE. Now he has a 16 WE. Only problem after his freshman year the gains he got dropped off. http://www.whatifsports.com/hd/PlayerProfile/Ratings.aspx?tid=0&pid=2739780.
