For the last several seasons, I have spent time in practice on having the LB's and DB's learn pass routes, thinking that would help them defend them. Is that strictly an offensive aspect, or can defensive players benefit?

Can someone at least say "That may have some validity for such and such reason." or "That's about the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard for such and such reason!"

I practice them. I do believe it helps in GI and Tech on those players.

Thanks dublinuf!

I practice them as well, more so with db's though

That thought never occurred to me before, but seems like a reasonable idea.  I am not sure how much it would increase the rate of which gi and tech increases.  I would compare your rate of gi/game to other users to see if there is a significant difference.  Of course when you do that, you are assuming others are not practicing pass routes.

It helps, but I don't think your DB's or LB's are actually learning passing routes. I think the only reason practicing passing routes helps is because it increases GI and tech. I'm pretty positive there aren't really even passing routes in the game.

I put about 5 minutes into passing routes for the db's and LB's and it seems to help add a point ...... occasionally 2 depending on how your long your season is, WE , playing time etc...

Lol. Yah. No Sheet there are no pass routes. But Your point about increasing Gi anTech is a good one. I never practiced it for my db and lb but am thinking about it now.

Hey I went back and looked and it turns out that the above posters were right; pass routes will help technique for DBs.  Here is the convo:

In the positional practice plans, are categories like passing and pass routes working properly? If so, can they be used for multiple positions?

Hi Chris,

Yes they are working correctly.

Please refer to KB Article 418 for more information on Practice Plans.

Thank you.

SO I can set my QB to practice passing, kicking and punting if I am most interested in raising technique? Or are passing, kicking and punting position dependent?

Hi Chris,

They are position dependent. Practicing kicking and punting will not help improve your quarterback.

Thanks for the answer. will praticing pass routes help my defensive backs with hands and technique? or is that for WRs only? What about RBs? The chart doesn;t have this information....

Practicing route running helps those that run routes (WR, RB, and TE) as well as DBs in regards to their technique.

We'll review this and see if we can get it added into a KB article or added to the practice page.

Thanks samson!

np!  Definitive info is hard to find in these parts.  Glad I could dig up the convo.

Thanks for sharing that info. I wish they would just put that in a game guide or even in the help screen on the practice page.
