The Talkin' Baseball progressive league is heading into its 26th season! The league was founded in 1950, and we are looking for TWO owners to join us starting in the 1975 season.
The available teams have been well looked after. The Cincinnati owner of 12 seasons went MIA before the 1974, so I have been running this team myself in 1974. Detroit has had the same owner for 21 seasons! Cincinnati won championships in 1968 and 1970 and has star power in their prime, namely Johnny Bench, Fergie Jenkins and Lou Brock. Detroit has been a little up and down through the years, but in most seasons have been competitive. Detroit offers a young Steve Garvey whose career is ready to take off, and players like Jorge Orta, Al Bumbry and Bruce Kison to help build around. Both teams have been around .500 or slightly under so far in 1974.
We only want owners who are looking to stay with us for the long term. To be more precise, we are requesting at minimum a 6 (six) season commitment from you. We'll call it a gentlemen's agreement. Progressive league vets and non-experienced owners looking to join/learn a progressive league are both welcome in this league. If you aren't willing or interested in playing with us for at least 6 seasons, we do thank you for looking here but you aren't what we are looking for.
We will probably be starting the 1975 draft OFF the clock in a few days. We will slow play the draft until we go on the clock, which isn't until Monday, November 17th. We are currently 122 games into the 1974 season as of this post. This team will have a pick between 7 and 13 in the first round, via the lotto process explained in the next post. We'll know exactly the number within a few days. After the first round, this team will have the 8th pick in each remaining round. Taking this team now will allow you to participate in the draft, but also know that you won't be playing games until the 1975 season starts, which will probably be around mid to later September. If you take over this franchise before 11/8, you can also amend the keeper list.
The roster for the available teams are at the bottom of this thread. Cincinnati can choose to play home games in one of the following cities: Cincinnati, Montreal, or St. Louis. Detroit can choose to play home games in one of the following cities: Detroit, New York (AL), or Texas. Please note that New York actually played in Shea Stadium in 1975 before returning to a renovated Yankee Stadium in 1976.
Note: While we play the 1975 season, we will hold a draft allowing owners to switch their ball park come 1977. Draft order is determined by seniority within the Talkin' Baseball League. Toronto and Seattle will be made available to current owners, as well as any ball parks not currently in use. Different ball parks may become available if current owners opt to change their home park during the draft.
We will be expanding from 20 to 24 teams starting in the 1977 season. The 1977 Expansion Plan is listed below, before the 1975 available teams.
