Now that I'm out of the playoffs, I'm gonna be doing a lot more work on my little behind the scenes project. Very tedious stuff but will be a neat archive when I am done. With the MLD being 30 season's old now, there is a whole bunch of data and stats that a numbers junkie like myself enjoys digging into......yes, I'm weird and nerdy, I know that already, I thought you already knew that too. :)
At first, I was gonna attempt to find the career all time leading MLD scorers but that task was/is a little overwelming......I still plan to tackle that job but not just yet.
Instead, I'm compiling a "by-franchise" look at some of the top regular season performers and performances. Was gonna keep it a secret but I'm too excited over finally compiling and completing the CCC research.....next up is the POW, THEN I will finally have a complete listing.
In the meantime, consider this a teaser. My "power listing" will be a listing that includes....
~ Every franchise's top single player performance for goals, assists and points total for a single season. (including season# feat was accomplished. We'll likely see alot of season 1 totals topping these listings.....but at least they'll be easier to spot.) Top seasonal PIM totals will also be listed but only if a franchise had a player earn 100+ in any given season.
~ In addition to the top performances listed above, every MLD cyber athlete who cracks 50 goals or 100 points in a single season will be listed. Meaning, if (example) Joe Smith scored 102 pts in season 20...but that wasn't the top total for the franchise, he will still be listed. (Because he scored 100+ points)
~ Any MLD cyber athlete who scored 40 goals and 40 assists in any given season will also be listed.........these are members of the 40/40 club. If a player happened to accomplish this feat in more than 1 season, they'll be listed multiple times.
The above conditions are what I decided to use in compiling the listing I am working on......I had to draw the line somewhere or else it would be too hard to input all the info. However, midway through my data collecting, I realized that there is a minor flaw to my criteria for players making the list.
If a player, say Jon Dough, happened to score 39 goals and record 60 assists........for a total of 99 points, if that 99 point total is not tops for the history of the franchise, he will NOT appear on my listing....... while notching 99 points in a season is impressive, he didn't score 50+ goals, he didn't score 100+ points and he did not make it to the 40/40 club, therefore he is not going to be on "the listing". Kinda sucks but like I said, I had to draw the line somewhere.
