70 Miles and below Topic

Wanted to clarify something I read in the past (Cannot find the post), and not sure if what I read was accurate or not but I know well known coaches were talking about it

- Recruits 70 miles and below when recruited ... no matter what your prestige is, do they look at your school as being an A+ prestige even if you're not?

So, Say I'm a D- school and I see somebody I'm interested in who is 50 miles away.  Does that recruit look at my school as an A+ and Do I have the same amount of a chance as an A+ Prestige program 80 miles away?  Conference cash and everything aside ... just want to know if recruits look at you as an A+ school even though you're not.  Might be a stupid question, but I don't care --- I must know :)

That is definitely not true at all. The only advantages you have from being really close is everything is cheaper and guys higher up might be more willing to consider you than if you were farther away.

Thank you

Blackdog's oversimplifying - there are players that would otherwise list you as a backup option that will have dropped to you at the start of recruiting just because you're within 70 miles.  There are players that would otherwise give you no chance that will be available to drop to you just because you're within 70 miles.

I think they treat you like an A+ prestige for the sake of pulldowns and dropdowns but not in the recruiting value modifier.

or what corn said, that probably makes more sense than what I wrote.....

That's what I got confused on and what I was going after.  Thanks for clarifying that!

I think it helps somewhat to be that close, but it does not make you an A+ by any means. This is especially the case if a Player is wanting to stay "Close to Home". If I had to guess, and this is a total guess, I would say it probably improves your prestige in that players mind by like a grade.

I guess the followup question is: is there some significance to 70 miles vs 80 miles? Or is there some formula for how interest might decrease as distance increases?

70 miles is just like 10, 80 is just like 190, except for a couple % difference in the costs of visits.

I believe there is something magical about 70 miles.

The 164th ranked PF who a HS recruit is an option for me....he is 20 miles away.

The 166th ranked PF who is a JUCO guy with 3 years left is not....he is 80 miles away.

Anything 70 or below means there is potential that you might be able to recruit a player that you otherwise wouldn't have had the chance. That said, there is a difference within that 70-mile range -- 10 miles gives you the best chance, 70 the worst. You might be able to recruit a guy at 10 miles, and the same guy might've still be a no at 70.
