Ok so here's the situation...I already sent a ticket to ask for clarification but will cancel it if you guys can help me understand what happened.

There was a player I particularly wanted to recruit for my D1 team, B prestige. The player was a transfer from a Big 10 school with 3 seasons left.

I spent nearly 30k on this player (at approx 700 miles or something) in an effort to get him to consider me, which he never did.  After the 2nd cycle he began considering a local C+ prestige mid-major team that had about 12 guys considering him, so I figured I could keep spending and try to get this guy.  The player also responded to my phone call by saying he was recruitable.

After signings I asked the coach who landed him (a former conference mate) how much he had to spend on this player to make it so that he' never even consider me....and he told me he only spent $400!!!

He said he may have spent a little bit of money on the player last season before Indiana jumped on him...but since we are talking about a mid-major I really, really doubt he spent enough to make it impossible for this guy to ever consider me, especially since the player wasn't considering him right off the bat.

Am I wrong or is something not right about this?

Did you mistakenly inform of RS? That's the only thing I can think of.

I would copy and paste all of your recruiting activities into the ticket so they're preserved for them to look at.

You don't want them to play the, "Sorry, the info got wiped out" card.

No...

And the guy who got him told me he did at most 10SV and 10HV last seas....he's only 10 miles out, but I still don't think that effort surpasses what I put in.  One thing I just noticed though as I went back to copy and paste my effort is that in spite of accepting my home visits in that first cycle the player declined my scholarship offer.  I never made him another one because I assumed this one had been accepted, especially since I got these messages in response to that cycle:

Coach, I'm really on the fence right now - there are a couple of other schools I really like right now too. I can't decide just yet.

Coach, I've been a fan of Troy since I was little. Thanks for taking your time to visit with my family. Now they are as excited as I am!

Not exactly messages of decline....If that's the reason they are going to give me I'm going to be ******.

Anyway here is the total effort.  The later declines I just attributed to the fact that I hadn't gotten him to consider me yet which is why I kept sending the SV's...but in reality he declined everything after that first cycle when he declined my scholarship without cause.

Something definitely doesn't sound right here.  I think this would be ticket worthy.

Of course at this point I dont know that it really matters.  It's not like there's a good solution.  If they say too bad, that sucks.  They can award me the money back, but all the good players are gone.  They can give me a player with the same skills/potential, but I still could have probably got the guy for way less money and had the cash to take a run at another highly ranked player instead of just picking up guys i knew i could get with what i had left.

I don't understand how he accepted HV's at the beginning, then didn't the rest of the time.  I also don't understand your recruiting strategy. Throwing around SV's on Day 3 doesn't make much sense. $30K of CV's and HV's is much much different than SV's.
8/18/2011 12:09 AM
I dont know what you're saying.  If he wasn't accepting CV's and HV's why would I try to use them as opposed to using SV's to try and get on his considering list so that I could actually start using the CV's or HV's if I wanted/needed to?

It was as simple as missing the declined scholarship offer. I did the same thing last season and like you, never noticed it until after it was too late, just like you.

well if he declined the scholarship i shouldnt have gotten the messages that i got from him...and i was under the impression that players can and will still consider you anyway...they just won't sign if you haven't offered them a scholarship.

Here is my bogus stock reply from Customer Support.  I facking hate when they talk to you like you dont know the rules when I think we know them better than they do.

Hi David,

The reason the other school signed him was because they had recruited him the previous season. When a recruits goes JUCO, etc. you do not get full credit of your recruiting actions but you do get some credit and in this case, it was enough. Just simply recruiting the player at all a previous season is not enough but we cannot discuss the coach's recruiting any further than that.

The declined offer probably switched to declined from pending when he signed with the other team.  Did he not accept any CV/HVs at all during the process.  It would seem that he would be a dropdown but that doesn't seem on par if he went to another lower level team.  I will say that ST are the most expensive way to recruit.  You can spend sometimes 9 or 10 times as much for a similar effort using st.

so....in other words...$400 plus partial credit for at most 10 SV and 10 HV's is enough to keep this player from ever considering a higher prestige school that spend s $28,000+ in the current recruiting season.

of course there is no mention of why the player accepted HV's and sent positive replies to them and a "maybe" scholarship message and then declined my scholarship and stopped accepting my HV and CV's.

Rails-he accepted the first 2 HV's in the inital cycle and then suddenly stopped accepting them after that...so I began treating it like a drop down..which I don't think I should have had to do, but I did anyway...but after 46 SV's he still never dropped.

Also you could very well be right about the scholarship offer.  I certainly never noticed anything about it during the recruiting process until I went to paste the efforts here.

start doing what i now do - take a screenshot of every recruiting action, every cycle so that when this **** inevitibly occurs you can prove it to CS.  otherwise they will just tell you they can't see when an event happened.

ETA: even if you do prove your case you'll get a credit at best - it never happens fast enough to do anything about the actual recruiting...but if you can prove something went wrong at least, in their defense, they will generally give a small credit...

8/18/2011 4:39 PM
oh i know it.  i'd be thrilled if they'd comp me a guy with identical skills and potentials even without any financial credit....but the sad thing is that even if they issue a small credit this is the kind of thing that can absolutely kill you at the mid major level where it's a really fine line between being good enough to make the NT and not making it and really causing your prestige to drop back towards it's baseline.
